As the wonderful Catherine Deveny said: "If you think smacking your kids is OK, smack them in public" or words to that effect.

So this would be pollie took up her challenge:

Gees, no the kid didn't deserve that, should have tried to discipline him with speech, then maybe a smack on the bum. That's not a smack, it's hitting him around the head.

I saw that on my cousins Facebook earlier that's just messed up and glad he resigned... I have seen a few parents up the shopping centre where I live really lay into their kids there's no need for that no matter how annoying or not so behaved they are.

Smack on the ass used to be enough for my brother and I, although it didn't stop me swearing nor did other stuff but never got that kind of treatment that's just messed up.

Not me. I think it's ridiculous. As if any of us have never hurt someone else physically or emotionally. What difference does it make that it happened in public? Do we have so many talented politicians on hand that we can just get rid of every single one that flips out in public, or has an affair, or sends a politically incorrect text message? He doesn't sound like the greatest parent in the world, to say the least, but I don't see what that has to do with his ability at developing and communicating policy or the price of eggs.

Smack your children? Never. I have honestly never once been tempted to smack any child of mine.

Of course, there have been a few times when I've been tempted to smack other people's children, and kick the damn parents in the head, but that's another tale.

^ oh yeah with you there that's for sure!

Am sure you love em but really just constantly yelling at them " Ill smack you if you do that again ( whilst they do it repeatedly) or the smarmy "Johnny don't do that again " in a play school voice a million times whilst little Johnny continues to run amok and pay f all attention - well!!!

The thread title here is a bit misleading, I thinkthis isn't about smacking as a possibly justifiable form of discipline; the guy slapped his kid across the head.

I wouldn't vote for him.

Pouring water on a baby is just bizarre and smacking a toddler in the head isn't called for.

If he's willing to do that in public what's he like in private?

Looks to have short fuse.

Does that make him a bad politician, necessarily? How do you know what the people you vote for are like in private?
