It probably wondered what the hell the guy was doing but I doubt it caused it any pain.

Ah Nick's the place one comes to discuss the ethics of animal rooting.

LOL.

So this guy can get away with it but John Longmire or Stui would be jailed?

Lol, and lol.

With Longmire it probably wouldn't count as bestiality, though.

Strange case, and not necessarily as far-fetched as it first sounds. Not really about circumcision, either—that just happens to be the court order at the centre of the parental dispute—but a reminder of how little agency children have over what happens to them.

I tend to think that, if it hasn't been done as a baby, in the first year, then you've missed your chance. Anything beyond that becomes cruel and traumatic. I know some cultures do it at 13, but I'd be absolutely seeking the child's consent in cases like that.

Why isn't it cruel and traumatic under a year old? Why is it done at all unless medically required?

It's a good question. As someone who was circumcised in the first month of my life, I don't feel any residual trauma or resentment over it—it's simply too early for it to have any significant impact on my psyche. Of course, there's plenty of debate on the subject regarding the pain infants are capable of feeling and the health benefits of circumcision (if any). The main reason people do it nowadays is for religious/cultural reasons. I certainly never entertained the idea of circumcising Ingmar.

It is indeed a WTF, big-time, and a tragic indictment of the American psyche. here we have a court of law - the institution supposed to protect people and safeguard their rights requiring genital mutilation on an unconsenting minor. You don't get much more brutal that that.

The foreskin, remember, contains 50% of the touch-sensitive erogenous tissue in the penis, and its sliding action is an important part of sexual pleasure. It is illegal to so much as add a small tattoo to a child under the age of consent, but here we have a court ordering irreversible mutilation of a child. How sick is that?

It's pretty much never medically required, TP. The usual excuse for it is "phimosis" (tight foreskin) which can be successfully treated in non-invasive ways in nearly all cases, and in those few where that fails, there is no need whatsoever to cut any tissue off, a very simple operation to widen the opening is all that is required.

Correct weight and if done while one is a baby absolutely no concerns.

Still at age 4 the opportunity has sailed.

Yesterday was feeling energetic and charitable, so I washed the kids sheets, cleaned their air con vents, and closed them for winter, and vacuumed and shampooed their carpets.

My eldest is turning into quite a clean freak (thank you God) so I was a little surprised to find a plate, fork and bottle of tomato sauce under her doona.

But not as surprised as her when I said to her and her boyfriend, "well I could understand if it was whipped cream"
