From tomorrow the privacy laws around sperm donors is changing. It astounds me that this new law is retrospective. Fair enough (I guess) if from March 1st donor information would be available. The donor would therefore be aware of this before deciding to donate. However, making it retrospective??
When someone donated sperm 20 years ago their privacy & anonymity was assured, now they could possibly be getting a knock on the door (or multiple knocks on the door!)- hi Dad! Imagine some uni student 20 years ago donating, now, 20 years later, sitting at home with possibly a wife & kids & having some other child/children show up. That he was ASSURED wouldn't happen.
This really baffles me.

I understand making donor medical information available, but name & date of birth?? No. Not right. IMHO |

Couldn't agree more, LD. To put it bluntly, ejaculating into a cup doesn't make you a father, and no donor should be treated as a long-lost biological parent by some random having a quarter-life crisis. I really fail to understand the reasoning behind this. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace

Agree. medical information is practical as the kid would be entitled to know if there were any genetic predispositions to particular diseases. But other than that, No.
I got asked to donate for a couple undergoing IVF more than 20 years ago. I said 'No' for that exact reason, i didn't want some kid I'd never met rocking up decades later saying "Hi Dad" _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

WTF is this 8 ball I keep seeing on facebook? If it's meant to signify something it hasn't been very well publicised. |

I think it's similar to the 2 girls, 1 cup internet sensation.
8 ball is 4 dudes, 1 cup... haven't made it to the end of the video yet. |

That's no clearer
What video? I only see emoticons of an 8 ball. No video, no cup, just a black billiard ball with an 8 on it |

They have the signs for animals. But the aliens, What about the aliens. Seriously I would rather see the money spent on prosecutmg jaywalkers and cyclists who don't think the road laws apply to them. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

I don't get how the stick figure of someone in a dress isn't sexist. Women don't wear pants?
If they want to do it accurately to reflect women, they need a pic of 3 people walking side by side, all talking at once _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The Richmond one was cute, I guess, but anyone pushing this as a serious social issue might need a slightly more meaningful cause to get behind.
Here's the group behind it, by the way. You know what they say about committees...
