Speaking of Savile, some people may take morbid interest from this (filmed a bit over 10 years ago). Very strange guy, no doubt about that:

A bit late to watch that right now but I generally love Louis Theroux's work. Maybe tomorrow

He's been named in an article on The Age's web-site in the last few minutes. I don't propose to post the link.

Why not? As Jonathan Holmes was saying a couple of weeks ago on Media Watch, there's certainly no legal barrier to naming him.

I'm all for the right to privacy, by the way, and would prefer that suspects (particularly those on such inflammatory charges) had their identities protected until convicted, but this is the status quo and I find it perplexing that one guy would be given special treatment.

Actually, the Aged hasn't actually named him as the arrested man. What they said was as follows:

Quote:
A well-known Australian entertainer arrested in Britain over sex abuse allegations has been publicly named for the first time as Rolf Harris, by British newspaper The Sun.
The Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid reported that 83-year-old Harris was arrested and questioned over historic sex abuse allegations by police investigating former BBC star Jimmy Savile. Harris has not been charged with any offence.
Until now, Harris' name has not been published by mainstream media organisations, who have referred to him as a well-known Australian entertainer from Berkshire. That is despite some bloggers and social media users publicly naming Harris.

Fairfax Media has not been able to independently confirm the arrested man's identity.

So at this stage, despite the innuendo, it has not been confirmed that Rolf is the bloke who was arrested.

Yep. Well, they're reporting that The Sun has reported that he's been arrested — kind of a round-about way of doing it, but I don't think there's any reasonable doubt that it's the case now anyway.

Let's at least find out what he's been accused of before casting aspersions. All newspaper reports have stressed that the potential crimes involved have nothing to do with the Savile case.
