The media will be the one that starts this nuclear war. The more they amplify the two mad Presidents remarks that make them both more popular in their own countries, then the more likely one will fire a missile and then the action will start. We will have at least 100000 people dead in minutes and Korea will become extinct hours after. The fallout will be wide spread and there will be damage elsewhere but limited to what missiles NK can get away.

For Trump to suggest Guam will become a Tourist Attraction because of the threat of missile attack is another example of how stupid Americans are.

These are very important.

Quite right. Kind of sets us apart from places like, uh, North Korea.

Well, I would hope Plan A would be avoiding the deaths of hundreds of thousands (or, to be more accurate, millions) of people. Of course there will be those who think belligerent language or even a first strike are less harmful tactics in the long-term than diplomacy and de-escalation, but I don't trust Trump or his offsiders to be able to make that call competently. Frankly, I don't think he has any idea what he's doing, and that a more than negligible part of his psyche wants to be a famous wartime president, consequences be damned.

What this situation needs is caution and cool heads, but there seems to be little prospect of that right now.

This latest Kim doesn't have any kids does he?

I'd favour the US having a quiet discussion with China, and then "taking out" Kim on the understanding that China would then use it's influence to install a saner leader.

Well I guess North Korea has at least got the Trump campaigns alleged collusion with Russia off the front page.

Not sure how accurate it is but I'm sure I heard Bob Carr surmise that the Chines President may never actually had direct contact with Kim Jong-Un even via phone.

The article below contains various on topic links that might be of interest to some.

I skimmed the article, Kim is a certifiable froot loop who no doubt has some advisors with serious self interest.

China may not have been in direct contact with Kimmy, but you'd bet your last shekel that they have people on the inside.

China likes having an "ally" there, I reckon they'd like it even more if the person was a tad more compliant.

A few judicious calls, bit of planning and a take down that everyone can live with, rather than having a nut job with a nuclear arsenal

I am closer to the action here and most Thais don't know or care about it. In Cambodia last year I bought a T shirt with the Korean nut job in an Eric Cartman outfit with the caption
"Respect my authority"

A lot of yanks get pissed off if I wear it but the British and Canadians laugh.

But at any given moment there are tens of thousand South Koreans here on package tours and and they could become stranded here if the country is in a nuclear fallout.

I think it's just wishful thinking. China don't know how to handle Kim any more than the US do. They liked having North Korea around back in the day as a bargaining chip, but they've long since lost control of the situation.

Apologies, it seemed clear to me when i typed it.

That's exactly why I'm proposing that the US kill Kim, after getting tacit sanction from China who can then replace him with someone borderline sane who is their puppet

Ah, I see. It's maybe possible – really hard to know how many secret potential reformers (if any) are close to a position of power and able to take charge with support of what's left of the administration. And how would an assassination attempt on Kim work without massive reprisals?
