Possibly re Essendon being better off.
Depends how this Hird thing gets resolved.

No draft picks for this year and next will hurt them unless they can get a premiership near term.

Draft penalties were for last year's (2013) draft and this year's (2014). Also, they still get a 1st round pick, only it is relegated to the "end of the 1st round" (ie: with Free Agency compensation, probably around the pick 20 or so mark). But it is still a 1st rounder all the same...
