Does anyone know when the new player numbers will be announced? I know that Lynch, Russell and Young have been assigned 21, 2 and 14.

I'm assuming 35 will be given to Grundy.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Yes, I'm predicting Grundy will obtain number 35. He was our first pick in this year's national draft. From memory, number 35 is now always given to the first player who was recruited by Collingwood in the national draft.

I kind of wish that someone else would establish the number 35 as their own for a long time like Daicos and Presti did, instead of alternating annually.

Had I my way, Fasolo would still be running around for us in #35.

I know Presti put his hand up, was selfless, gave up his place in the grand final team, all that, and good on him. But there are plenty of other ways for a club to show its gratitude to a favourite son that to concoct something like this. Hell, build a statue of him outside Olympic Park (it would be just as much a conversationalist as Simon was... Laughing )

In my view, the best way to honour Presti would be for his successor in the #35 to look at Presti's story of selflessness and use it as extra motivation to work that extra bit harder, on the field and on the training track, to do what Presti was not able to do: play in a winning grand final team.

But, I'll be in the minority in that one.

Good luck to Grundy (Herald Sun confirmed this week that he'll get 35), and I look forward to seeing him dominate in it... for a couple of games next year.

I totally agree with you, but it looks like the club is committed to this now.

Hopefully the lower numbers, 3, 19 and 25, will go to Elliot, Seedsman and Williams.

I've heard that too, but havnt seen anything official from the club on it yet.

FWIW, I think Elliott will go to 25, Hudson to 19, Kennedy to 27, Ramsay to 31, Marley to 29, Broomhead to 30 and the higher numbers to the new rookie listed players. Mooney might come down from 48 too.

Seems like the last bit of news we'll get, along with the new VFL list & captain, before the start of the season.

From BigFooty, it appears that some of the newer players have gotten their numbers, as they have now all put them into their Twitter profiles (as seems to be the Gen Y norm these days...)

Richmond gets #30, Grundy (as expected) to #35 and Frost snares #45...

A bit surprised Richmond has #30, usually rookies get all the high numbers.

Hope he doesn't, I liked the look of the number 48 on his back, make a name for yourself and make the number a house hold name Moons!
