Quote:
Brodie Grundy has surprised coaches and on-lookers by totally dominating ruck contests in preseason training.

His physicality and vertical leap have seen him beat Darren Jolly quite comfortably and caused some to wonder if Jolly might've been under an injury cloud.

Grundy also partook in a goal kicking contest between the players - slotting 8/10 goals from different points on the ground.

He too is shaping up as a possible round one starter for the Pies.

That sounds very Promising and Can't wait to see how he goes in Intra and Pre-Season Games

Ah, the first "new recruit tearing up the training track" story of the summer....

^One "new recruit tearing up the training track" story does not a summer make!

(Only jokin', Dave; I look forward to your reports over the coming months as always).

Makes good reading though. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Encouraging stuff but geez, people really love to jump to conclusions.

Ya reckon it might be because Jolly's easing himself into what, his 15th preseason and doesn't have much to prove while Grundy, young, full of beans and keen to impress his new team could be the reason?

Don't need to read much into it. Jols doesn't exactly have a huge vertical leap any more. Grundy would have the advantage at centre square contests with his agility. However Jols would probably out body him around the ground with his strength. The worry for Witts is he also does not seem to posses much leap at all. At least not that I've seen and I've seen him play quite a few VFL games now.

I think Witts issue is that he requires air traffic control clearance before leaving the ground.

yeah, I don't recall Jolly ever having much of a vertical leap. Argy bargy has always been more his game.

Ahh love the March Champions as they are called (someone, usually new or a fringe player, reportedly exceeding all expectations during pre-season) inspiring stuff, give him the brownlow now.

A little more seriously this is bloody good to hear.

This could actually be Jols last year or we might manage to drag another one out of him but he is definitely in the twilight and we need some hope and inspiration from Grundy and Witts.

Also heard that Hudson has impressed and that the wee lad Kennedy looks sharp.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but he didn't finish today's session. Walked an incredibly slow lap and then left with what was an already large rehab group. Hopefully nothing serious.
