As the biggest army in the land, we need to make a stand on this one.

Ed should stand up and tell the AFL that there will only be one song Collingwood ever runs out to, along with the one jumper with black & white stripes or white with black stripes that we will ever play in.

End of story!!!

It's a part of the game that makes AFL so special and unique to me. Can't believe the AFL want to introduce this crap for the small minded morons that will find it appealing for about 60 seconds.

I guess you haven't been to the footy that much over the past 3 or so years.
They play music before the game, at quarter time, at half time and at three quarter time.
No one cares, its irrelevant.
At the end of the game the winning team gets their club song played but again most people don't care as nearly everyone is heading for the exits.

Here's a few more ideas: cheerleaders, music playing as a team brings the ball up the field, some idiot making stupid comments over the PA during play, time outs every 2 minutes, etc, etc.....
It's bad enough that the cricket is starting to sound like some bloody baseball or basketball game!

What harm will it do?

It'll bring AFL games that little bit closer to staged WWE bouts, while continuing to divert the focus towards 'entertainment' and away from sport. Perhaps the highlight of your visits to the MCG is the crappy music played over the PA at half-time, but some of us actually enjoy watching football for its own sake. Changes like this make that increasingly difficult.

4'33" by John Cage.

'How do we in the audience deal with the silent piece? I believe if we engage it at all, we do so in one of two ways. The first of these is to pay attention the acoustic quality of the ambient sound we hear during the piece. "Oh" we may say to ourselves, "there are all kinds of sounds going on in this space that I never noticed before."

Of course we don't need a concept piece at the footy but what's better than just the crowd murmur of anticipation, the cheers, the sirens and the umpire's whistle to signal the start of the game as he shows the ball aloft. Anything else diminishes these moments.

The plan is to play the selected song as the team runs out onto the ground not during any part of the game.
Watching the game won't change at all.

I think melodrama is very much overrated

If Carlton were keen to use the TISM song defecate on my face I might be persuaded to give the idea a go.

Has anyone established whether this is real or just internet fiction?

They play the club song as the team runs out. That's the way it is. That's the way it ought to stay.

As an ex Mexican now living in Queensland i have had the awful opportunity to view a few games at the gaba, only to be greeted with rediculous music and the roar of lions after every Brisbane goal. Anyone else enjoyed this travesty?

Basketball the afl is not.....and trust me....that's the feel you start to get after a few brissy goals up here in qld....thank god they don't kick many these days.

this is the same club that opted for the paddle pop lion to adorn the front of its jumper.

No thanks, they've defecated on my face long enough! Mad

A more apt tune for that lot would be Regurgitator's - I sucked a lot of <snip> to get where I am Laughing

<to mods - that is actual song title>
<to franki - oh, good, that makes it ok then
