The player's name has not yet been released as his friends and family were still being informed. Fairfax Media has chosen not to name him.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said: ‘‘Victoria Police is aware of an incident involving a Victorian man in Las Vegas. As it is not a Victoria Police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further’’.
The club's Player Operations Manager Peter Rohde is travelling to Las Vegas to assist distraught teammates of the player.
‘‘At this point, the club is unable to confirm the identity of the player involved in this tragedy as family members are still being informed,’’ a statement released by Port Adelaide said.
‘‘The club is in contact with members of the travelling group and is working with US authorities while investigations continue ... The club has also made contact with its other players still in Australia.’’
The club said it could not make any further comment at this stage. |
