AFL Tasmania today has released the initial squad of 38 players for the State game against the Victorian Football League on Saturday 26 May at Blundstone Arena, Bellerive. Significantly, in selecting the squad, the selectors have applied the following selection criteria: 2012 State Team Selection Criteria: The overriding strategy will be to select younger players with talent and potential, players who may catch the eye of AFL recruiters if they perform well at this level, with the points below being further detail:
1. In the first year of what will be a six year program, prioritise the selection of players who are young and who might be able to come on the six year journey (or at least for say four years)
2. Select players who possess AFL attributes, and who show a desire and willingness to challenge themselves at a higher level
3. Only select experienced (say 24 years +) senior players with great character and commitment to the cause, who are extremely fit and who can be part of the journey for at least two or three years

2013 onwards:
• Senior state academy members will be prioritised into the initial squad but not guaranteed final selection

Assistant Coaches:
• State team coaching selections will favour coaches with potential and long term coaching aspirations, who understand the player development process

I am not sure, I will keep an eye out.

There is a special luncheon the day before the game as well, a bit pricey at something like 60 dollars per person.

K. Pendles got selected for a hypothetical state team last year, but because of the Foxtel Cup, there was no state league match.

Would think he has shown enough again to get a look this year. I could also throw Ferraro and maybe Boland into that category as well...

Based on what I have seen I'd say they are possibilities.

It's interesting that Tasmania have so many ruckmen in their squad, with no Drury there I would imagine that Ben Reynolds will get the Centre Half Forward position.

Since he was the best for Tasmania against Queensland.

Ben Reynolds, Jaye Bowden, Brayden Webb and Ben Brown are joined by late inclusion Clinton French in the final squad of 26 for this Saturday’s State game against the VFL.

Glenorchy is providing the second-most players to the final TSL squad out of any state league club, with five players named in the side ahead of this Saturday’s game against the VFL at Blundstone Arena.

Captain Ben Reynolds, midfielders Jaye Bowden and Brayden Webb, ruckman Ben Brown and half-back Clinton French have all been named among the 26 players in the squad, with 22 to take to the field against Victoria.

French was added after initially being left out of a preliminary squad of 38 based on his recent dominance out of half-back, including a best on ground performance on Saturday against North Hobart.

Only Burnie (with seven) has provided more players to the final squad, with four players selected from South Launceston and Clarence, three from Launceston and one each from Lauderdale, North Hobart and North Launceston.

First bounce is set for 1pm this Saturday, 26th May at Blundstone Arena.

^ Yep, on ABC1 in both TAS and VIC from 1:00pm.

From amongst our Collingwood VFL boys, only Kris Pendlebury will be in the team.

Be good to see how he goes.

It's going to be interesting to see how Tasmania go with their ruckstocks, as they have Groenwegen, Miar, Brown, Laycock, and McCulloch who can all ruck.

Thurley may rotate positions throughout the game from the forward, to the midfield and possibly sneak into the defence.

Bowden may play as a forward, Andy Lee will likely play somewhere in the forward line as well. With Reynolds at Centre Half Forward.

Julian Dobosz scored 4 goals on the weekend for the Dees, so I am hoping he has a good game, he will be one to look for draft day.

Is this the same Nick Probert who played for Collingwood in the 80's?
