Wide receiver Donald Driver has announced his retirement at age 37, as the Packers' all-time leader in receptions (743) and yards (10,137). A true "buried treasure" of the 1999 draft (he was taken in the 7th round), he played 205 games for the Pack. Only the Great One has played more. See http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8900529/donald-driver-green-bay-packers-retire-14-nfl-seasons

Here's a little memory from the last game those two played together for Green Bay:

And here's a TD pass from A-Rod to Quickie that 49ers fans will enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKx9NDxbiSs Laughing

Key NFL award outcomes were:

1 Adrian Peterson MVP
2 Peyton Manning come-back player of the year
3 The Great One and A-Rod shook hands. The routine went something like this, apparently:
"Favre: You know Aaron, everyone loves when a great player makes a comeback.

Rodgers: Yeah, not always. Sometimes … some people wish that great players would retire and just stay retired."
See http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/52880/favre-rodgers-that-was-awkward

4 J J Watt Defensive Player of the Year
5 RGIII Offensive Rookie of the Year
6 Luke Kuechly Defensive Rookie of the Year

OK, so Harbaugh defeated Harbaugh. Just as predicted.

For those of you hoping to avoid knowing which Harbaugh won, so that you can watch the replay as if it were live, I'll keep further details out of this post, for now.

Ravens 34: 49ers 31.

So, commiserations to OEP. Thanks for offering your thoughts throughout the season. I've enjoyed reading them (I'm sure others have, too) and am sorry that your 49ers couldn't get over the line for you.

San Francisco looked gone for all money 2 minutes into the 2nd half, 22 points down, but - all credit to them - they battled on bravely and were within a whisker of winning number 6 at the death.

A great game, though. I thoroughly enjoyed this one (in a way that you only can because your team isn't playing).

Here's hoping next season's Superbowl has the Favre brothers coaching the teams (and that the right one wins).

I'll just be happy if the Raiders can win 8 or more games next season.

Alex Smith is apparently going to follow Joe Montana to the Chiefs! See http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8995035/san-francisco-49ers-agree-trade-alex-smith-kansas-city-chiefs-source

Yep he'll be the fourth 49er QB traded to Kansas. Got a bloody good deal for him too.

Does this mean that Randy Moss will now be traded to the Oakland Raiders?

Strong rumours that he will be delisted to make salary cap space unless a trade can be made in the near future.

Yeah baby. Reeeeeeeeally happy with this trade, not only will he bring one maybe two years quality receiving to the 9ers and take the pressure off Crabtree but more importantly he is a fantastic leader and example to the young 9er WR's.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000149401/article/anquan-boldin-to-be-traded-to-san-francisco-49ers

Plus it only cost us a 2013 6th rounder which means we're still in the drivers seat for the upcoming draft Very Happy

Oh yeah and the Seahawks picks up Harvin who should sucker punch them after his first year there, and it cost them their 2013 1st and 7th round picks plus a mid round (likely 3rd round) 2014 pick. At the end of the day Harvin's skills are undeniable but his attitude is poor and he is on the injured list a lot.

Harvin makes the Seahawks offence far more explosive but it does leave them very weak in this draft and to a lesser degree the 2014 draft.

Boldin is a great get for the 49'ers, didn't see that coming. Also wes welker to Denver and Michael Wallace to the dolphins.

My Packers have been surprisingly quiet, given the receiving talent that has been moving around. With Jennings apparently on the way out and no-one other than Cobb making really good yardage last season, it's hard to see where A-Rod's next 400-yard throwing game is going to come from.

That said, I think Welker is slowing down but Boldin was fantastic in the play-offs and looks like he can still play at the required level. I suppose he's a casualty of the Ravens having to throw money at Flacco but he'll certainly pose a huge down-field threat for the 49ers. It's just possible he'll make the difference all on his own next year. And - best of all - he's probably smart enough not to make any "I'm the greatest wide-receiver of all time" claims (see ya Randy).
