TODD MEDALLIST – VFL Reserves Best and Fairest
Barry Round, Brownlow Medallist and Liston Medallist, presented the Todd Medal to his son David Round today.

David was recruited to the Williamstown Football Club from the Western Bulldogs.

The 23 year old ruckman played 10 Reserve Grade games and 7 Senior games in season 2001.

David polled in 8 out of the 10 games he played in the Reserve Grade Competition with 3 best on ground performances.

The Seagulls are looking for David to further his Senior career game tally of 48 games and follow in his father’s footsteps as the number 1 Ruckman at the Williamstown Football Club.

Liston Trophy:

VFL Liston Trophy - Dual Winners for 2001

Coburg Tigers' Ezra Poyas and Carlton’s Brett Backwell
today were announced joint winners of the coveted Liston Trophy.

Final Placings were:

1st B Backwell Carlton 19
1st E Poyas Coburg Tigers 19
2nd S Feast Port Melbourne 15
3rd J Plunkett Carlton 14
3rd P Filandia Port Melbourne 14
4th G Bennett Port Melbourne 12
5th A Cox Box Hill Hawks 11
5th A Merrington Carlton 11
5th M Frost Werribee 11
5th J McMahon Werribee 11


Ezra Poyas Coburg Tigers Football Club
In 1999 after an outstanding junior football career Ezra moved to the Prahran Dragons in the TAC CUP Competition, captaining Victoria Metropolitan in the National Under 18 Championships, being selected in the All Australian Team and playing in the Prahran Dragons’ 1999 Premiership Team.

Drafted to Richmond in the 1999 AFL National Draft at pick 22, Ezra played 17 games with the Coburg Tigers in season 2001 kicking 28 goals across the half forward line.

Ezra polled 19 votes including 3 best on ground performances in a row in Rounds 13, 14 & 15. Ezra polled 5 best on ground performances throughout the Home & Season.

Ezra is a classy half - forward flanker who enjoys kicking a goal.

At 20 years of age, Ezra not doubt will be pursuing a long and distinguished career with the Richmond Football Club.

Brett Backwell – Carlton Football Club
Brett was drafted in the 1998 AFL National Draft at pick 67 from West Brisbane to Carlton.

An AFL Rising Star Nomination in 1999, Brett played 18 games with Carlton in the VFL this season kicking 13 goals.

Brett polled 5 best on ground performances with Carlton this year tying the Liston Trophy with Ezra Poyas of the Coburg Tigers with 19 votes.

Brett is a dynamic rover with exceptional pace and skill who can turn a game with his burst of speed at any given time.

No doubt the Carlton Football Club will look forward to Brett playing a significant role with Carlton in the AFL in future years.

sweet, i never thought they'd get to the GF, until beat a really good team, i think it was werribee, ha! they can just do that again then.
