I don't understand why she wants to get that education as as Then She can save her pennies and take off where She wants. I don't think that the subjects they pick and what they hope to achieve but he or she have no illusions of an honours student is the only factor. What would make it meaningful to you? How do you know this is going to happen?

Comeone people, Uni is a gap 4 years!

Its bloody easy, if u live at home and don't have to struggle money wise, which was luckily the case for me, then your part time job basically funds your vices, be it shopping, drinking, smoking pot, whatever.

It's only hard for 2 months per year during exams and even then people make it hard for themselves because they are not focused on how to prepare properly for an exam (ie cramming is key, get the last 5-10 exam papers for same subject from library and u will be able to predict what will be on this one, lecturers are the laziest people in the known world).

A slog, hah! Its the gap 4 years we all dream of!

Maybe if you live at home. If you don't, you're going to have to support yourself through working at least three shifts a week. If you're a full-time student, that means you practically never have a day off. That was my situation last year; working full-time feels like a bludge in comparison.

My biggest fear is burn out. 13 years IS a long time, whether it's been a struggle or not. For my situation, Shelby tends to be a bit lazy. She's a bright kid and has so far breezed through school with very little effort. That can be dangerous. She will definitely need to get more organised in the next few years and that concerns me.

I think she's a kid who will need to take a break before starting Uni, otherwise (at this stage at least) she might be over it and not excel as well as she could.

Her education has already cost $70K + and she still has 3 years to go. I'm just not prepared to gamble on that amount of money when maybe a year off will make all the difference.

You seem to get a bit defensive on this subject tp, and there's really no need. All kids are different and probably a majority cope just fine without a gap year. I wish your daughter loads of luck - and I'm sure the way you speak about her she won't need it.

Agree 100%, and I know because that's exactly what happened to me. When you get to university, work ethic counts for so much more than natural ability. There are exceptions, but in general a kid who worked hard for a 79 is going to excel at uni more than one who got through with 94 without lifting a finger. I learned the hard way.

+1!

Her situation exactly.

Though not the smoking pot! I hope!

I'll have a drink with her!

Rent free, board free, car supplied, with rego and insurance, petrol card, she will be cruising!

I'll take notice of the last 5 year exam thing, thanks for that!

I went straight from year 11 to a four year apprenticeship, with a technicians course on top of it, as did hubby. And we bought and maintained our own cars and paid board!

Nicole has it easy. And yes, She knows it!

Add in the fact that she cruised til the end of year eleven, and only found her work ethic on February 2nd last year, sound like she has it made!

I hope so. That's why her dad and I have worked so hard, to give them a better, easier shot at it.

Better go cook her some dinner, she starts work at 5.30! After sleeping til 12, watching Telly and laying in the sun all day! Yep it's a hard life alright!
