Nah... Port will plug away! The AFL owe Port and of course there needs to be 2 SA teams so the AFL should be helping/bailing them out of trouble... as they do with half the clubs!
Port have not been too bad - yeah some annoyance ealy on re Colours etc but that was sorted. We (CFC) own them when it comes to playing finals -Would love to play them in a GF... and they did beat the Lions in 04 stopping the rot and ensuirng the cheating Brions did not get 4 flags in a row!
Plus they have won a flag this century - unlike Carlton, Richmond, Dogs, Saints, Dees, North, Crows and the other losers!

Bit rich blaming the sanfl for Port troubles, the sanfl have borrowed millions in the last 3 years and put themselves at financial risk to keep Port afloat. Let's face it Port were a big fish in a small pond when in the sanfl, now they are the small fish on the big stage they don't have the supporter numbers to compete. The sanfl should've given the second licence to another amalgamated club, that didn't have the bad blood in the sa footy market, making it easier to attract supporters to the new club. Port promised 35 thousand people to every home game in order to get the second sa licence, they haven't been able to deliver on that blatant lie and the sanfl has paid for it.
If moving to Adelaide Oval doesn't save Port nothing will and their licence should go to another sa club like centrals or a crows mark2.

I take it you're from SA and aren't a Port Fan. Fair enough, but if you can't see that the SANFL has handicapped Port from the start you have issues.
Explain to me one good reason for them making Port Power and Port Adelaide Magpies exist as two separate entities? Other than the SANFL managements delusions of adequacy.

Personally I think the VFL model would be perfect in SA. Instead of having this bogus separation of entities where Port Adelaide Power and Port Adelaide Magpies are totally separate financial organisations, creating stupid duplication, they could be one club again.
Port Adelaide could field a team in the AFL called the Power and a team in the SANFL called the Magpies, pretty much the same as Collingwood and Geelong do now.
It would have massive benefits for Port and for Adelaide, concentrate all of the AFL listed players into those 2 clubs meaning all the others could focus on developing their own (ala Port Melbourne) and they could require Port and the Crows to play a minumum number of SANFL listed players.
Depending on the cycle the AFL club is at would depend on how competitive their SANFL club would be.
IMO, most of the bullshit restrictions are petty and stupid and the sooner the SANFL is given a leather enema administered at high velocity, the better for the game overall. |
