From the limitations of a video he looked quite athletic & seemd to know how to play. Looks promising.

I have a hunch that we were surprised he slipped this far down the draft picking order!

With the likes of Cloke, Dawes, Brown and Reid only now just starting to enter there peak period as players there isn't any rush for Paine, Hartley and Gault.

They will be given time to develop and unless there really special don't expect to see them at AFL level anytime soon.

I'll take that!

This is a very good thing . Unlike they did with Josh Fraser, the club can take their time and be patient with his development and not throw him to the wolves. Let him learn the game...... Cool

Expect him to be developed in the same fashion Keefe has been with a kp role more in the mind of Hine rather than ruck.

Still an athletic 197cm player would be rather handy in the Leigh Brown role in the future.

Either way it'll probably be a few years before we have any idea whether he and Paine has a future at AFL level.

Considering they were taken late in an already compromised draft the odds are stacked against them with the reality being if one of them can get to 50 senior games it would have been a success.

Only time will tell till then don't stress to much.

Read the Aged over breakfast (didn't buy it, it was the cafe's copy) and there was a nice but short article about him.

IIRC it said he was a flanker/midfielder type until 12-18 months ago when he suddenly grew. He missed a large chunk of last season with hip issues, something about the hip flexor couldn't keep up he was growing so fast, so he had to rest.

Also mentioned he'd had some scans and the ankle plate wasn't fully closed which (apparently) means he's still got some more growing to do.

Said the club was looking for him to play forward.

^Interesting.

Hopefully his body doesn't cause him ongoing problems.

Sounds like normal growing issues.
