He is a great personality!
Alot of people dont like him because he comes across as arrogant, but i think he is a very smart celebrity.
No matter what people think of him if he wasnt on the Footy show it wouldnt be worth watching which is the reason i like him.
There is 2 types of Supporters-: Collingwood and the Rest!!!! |

Dont judge the book by its cover.
I have met people who had dealings with him in his personal life and they can't speak highly enough of him.
The show always must go on. Thats entertainment.

One who is to clever to be struck down by the tall poppie syndrome.
And magpie greg it would be nice to keep this apolitical but since you raised it please explain why every state is Labor and if it wasnt for the bullshit over the children overboard affair we would have every major form of government ,and nearly all local as well, having been elected by the people of Australia.Does it hurt that much being ina minority?
would you like fries with that? |

Sam Newman is good for channel 9. He is good for MMM. He is good for football. He is good for Melbourne.
I can't get enough of him.
Arrogant or not, give me him anyday over any of those B-grade, Holly-Vallance-headline-grabbers, Home and Away blah chicks who turn up to the opening of an envelope.
He always has something interesting to say and Friday morning talk around the place is always "Did you see Sam last night....". I think he just has had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time on more than one occasion. And if people can't see the difference between the Footy Show persona and the Sam off-camera, there is a big difference.

Having not met Sam personally, my judgement is guesswork, but i'm guessing he is alot like Red Symons - they play or have played a certain part on TV to get ratings. I love Red and i think Sam is a very talented and clever entertainer. Look past the picket fence and take a look at the house behind it.
Hard at it. The Collingwood way. |

I think there's a big difference between the public Sam Newman and the private John Newman. He's got a job to do at Channel 9 and he does it well, regardless of whether you love or hate him (a lot of people I know can't stand him but still tune in to see what he's going to do next!). Sam bugs the hell out of me most of the time but I doubt few of us will ever see who he really is - which I think is a bit of a shame, particularly if he only gets remembered as the larrikin/idiot Sam.
GO PIES!

Eddie,
Whilst not trying to speak for Magpie Greg, I'd suggest his 'political' statement is a bit of a dig at Lorelei's. To keep the site apolitical, perhaps you could try to send him a PM and take it from there.
On the Newman subject, MargOz, Wearmouth etc probably hit the nail on the head!

As mentioned, we really don't want to get into a political slanging match on such a great footy board - let's talk about more fun stuff like the Mighty Pies!

I like Sam. Although he he a bit of a wanker at times, I think he is a genuine good bloke. However, somtimes you wonder if he plays dumb or whether he actually is dumb. |
