Post subject: Round 19 - Geelong vs Collingwood at Kardinia Park | |
|
10:00am this Saturday at the Cattery.
Geelong: 10th place (4 wins, 11 losses, 3 byes, 96.02%)
Collingwood: 11th place (4 wins, 11 losses, 3 byes, 78.01%)
Last time these two teams met:
Round 7 at Victoria Park
Collingwood 10.15.75
Geelong 10.11.71
NOTE: The original fixture says 10:40, but the match has been rescheduled to 10am because the following AFL game has been pushed back half an hour.
No TV or radio broadcast. CFC to perform a LiveChat.
This match has been scheduled as a curtain-raiser to the Geelong v Gold Coast match.
On to selections. Will Alan Didak return to match fitness via the VFL, or will the famous number 4 slot straight back in to the senior side? And who comes out for him from the senior team? Simon Buckley, Jarryd Blair and Alex Fasolo would all be possibilities for omission, although Fasolo would feel a bit stiff after his performance against the Bombers. Ben Sinclair would also be a likely omission for Dale Thomas, whom he replaced on Sunday as a late change due to Thomas not having fully recovered from his corked thigh suffered against Gold Coast. Sharrod Wellingham is also in the mix for senior recall, listed on the injury list as a test.
Conversely, Tom Young, Josh Thomas and Kirk Ugle are all in the running for a senior debut this week, based on recent form. Mick Malthouse has in recent weeks spoken of Young and Thomas as potential senior debutants even at this late stage of the season.
In terms of our recent additions to the VFL side, many people who were at last Saturday’s match against Frankston have come away impressed with Jarrod Witts. Whilst his numbers on paper appear rather modest (8 disposals, 9 hitouts, 4 tackles and a mark), particularly against a side like Frankston, this is to be expected in his first official game in the black and white stripes, notwithstanding the hype generated by his exploits in the Under-18 championships. He will, nevertheless, be a likely start in the side for the remaining matches of the season, as too will his fellow NSW scholarship holder, Michael Hartley.
Tom Sundberg sustained a knock to his right shoulder late in the match on Saturday. The club has not said anything about his condition, but it is possibly just a simple stinger, which means he could be back this week. Rob Condy put in another solid effort against the Dolphins, which should see him retain his spot. Tom Couch and Jack Bull could also retain their spots after kicking three and two goals, respectively.
Technically, this is our second “Super Saturday” of VFL and AFL football on the same day, but of course, the AFL match is at Football Park. Has anyone tried working out a journey plan that will get them from Kardinia Park to Football Park in time for the match? Would be cool if someone were able to do it…
After seeing Geelong’s comprehensive destruction of premiership-contenders Casey (aligned to Melbourne ), I am a little concerned about this game. On the other hand, a win will have done our boys some good in terms of confidence, and we have beaten Geelong before this season. A win will complete the second step required in order to scrape into the finals.
Can our boys bring home the bacon? Go Pies! _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Bit unfortunate Sinclair couldn't hold his place in the seniors. Keefe has had a good run and probably important to keep Wood in the picture. |
