Yeah its too bad about Lica but MM obviously knows we're gonna thump the Hawks and has decided to save him for when it really matters!! Will be interesting to see how Brodie plays after injury too.

Interesting to see what we do without Wakes down back. Im presuming either Clokey or Richo will fill the CHB role.

Hopefully Cole takes Wakes place.

We'll win this one.

Richie to replace Wakes?? Hey??

Wouldn't u think Mark Richardson will go down back, maybe even Molly aswell. Cole isn't a defender.

i'd like to see the back 6 consisting roughly of, Cloke, Presti, Richardson, Clemo, perhaps rupe (hbf) , ryan (hbf)

The way they are talking it's all about Chance Bateman stopping Didak, we are not one dimentional. I expect Woey to kill them and Tarrant to be accurate this week. In saying that it is a pre season comp and Malthouse will try different things. Williams size and mobility could hurt the Dawks as well.

Hawk Chance to stop Didak
By Shannon McRae and Rebecca Williams
February 28, 2003

http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,6053704-23211,00.html

CHANCE BATEMAN is shaping up as the man most likely to pick up dangerous Magpies forward Alan Didak in Sunday night's Wizard Cup quarter-final.

Bateman was impressive in the Wizard Cup opener against St Kilda, keeping goalsneak Stephen Milne under wraps.

And Didak stood out for the Pies last Sunday, booting five goals in the win over Carlton.

Hawk coach Peter Schwab said Bateman could become an important weapon in the Hawks' midfield arsenal after an injury-interrupted 2002.

"It's his third year of footy and he's starting to really establish himself. He's in good physical condition," he said.

"He's a good young kid, he's really keen to do well and he works hard at his game."

Schwab said Bateman had stepped up a notch this season and had begun to assume a leadership role within the club.

"When you've been around for three years, you expect things to happen over that time frame, so it's a pretty important year for him," he said.

"He's got a better appreciation of what he's got to do to be successful at AFL level, and that's been the big improvement in him."

The Hawks are wary of Didak and Anthony Rocca's ability to slot through nine-pointers from outside 50m.

"He (Didak) is a dangerous player. He's very clever. He's also a long kick," Schwab said.

The Hawks will be without the suspended Luke Hodge, Schwab hinting the one-match penalty was too severe.

"If that's the benchmark, fine, we'll sit back and watch with interest," Schwab said, adding that Hodge would bounce back quickly.

"He's disappointed, but he'll just have to train harder this week. Hopefully if we get through he can play another Wizard Cup match."

Schwab also praised the early form of Peter Everitt, saying "Spider" had combined well with young ruckman David Loats.

"He's been a real bonus for us. We needed to get a quality ruckman," Schwab said. "He's certainly going to give us some first use of the ball in the centre bounces, and Loats has been very good, too.

"Peter's a class player, and David's a developing player, both of which you need."

Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse said dual Copeland Trophy winner Paul Licuria, who missed against Carlton because of a sore back, would be assessed at training this week.

"At this time of the year you've just got to be cautious and make sure they're ready to go," Malthouse said.

"He was touch and go last week, but we elected not to put him in the 28 on the Thursday. We took the gamble that we could get over the line without those players."

Malthouse said he hoped for more of a four-quarter effort from the Magpies after they faded at stages in their win over Carlton.

"The disappointment of the game was that we probably fell away a bit in the second and third quarters," he said.

"So that's something to build on. But you can't expect to build the team that you want to represent you in Round 1 at the first week of the Wizard Cup."

Malthouse said he did not expect too many surprises from the Hawks. "Looking at Hawthorn, their game plan hasn't chang

Quote Pies Premier 2003;

"Well its at Docklands on Sunday Night...6.10....same bat time as last week....one big difference....CH10 are not broadcasting the game live into Melb or running a carlton charity show simultaneously...."
Unqoute.

Hello PP'03, can you please confirm that ch.10 are NOT broadcasting the match live in Melb (Vic)?
My TV guide, H/S lift out weds 26th, shows Ten as doing a 6pm live show.
At least we will not see the filth can-rattling no matter what time the match is shown!
