The reason why they can look after the freo dockers with this debt is because the WAFC as a compertion of its own to help the freo dockers. With the funds they need to run a footy club!!!

here is the story posted today on www.footygoss.com
WAs premier footy web site.

By Daniel Garb

The Fremantle Dockers are reportedly $7 million in debt however club officials have stated the club is still in a stable position.

As reported in The Age, the Dockers have unpaid debts from it's license fee, bank overdraft, ground maintenance and money owing off it's new clubhouse.
Chief Executive Cameron Schwab has announced a plan for the future to wipe out the debt that includes membership revenue based on potentially successful on-field performances, reducing player payments and corporate sales.
Interestingly the Fremantle Dockers have paid no royalties to the WA Football Commission during that time whilst their neighbours the Eagles have paid over $10 million.
Despite this bad news the club has stated they do not need financial assistance from the AFL.

What created this at Freo????

The AFL rule that you must spend 90+% of salary cap...Why was this rule brought in?? To destroy Fitzroy, who put out competitive sides on 30ish% of cap. Make em spend more to kill them off. Dumb AFL forgot to repeal rule after killing Fitzroy, therefore causing Freo probs.

I am suprised that Macers/KFC or Coca Cola are sponsoring teams yet.Even Telstra Havent got their names embossed on team shorts or gurnseys yet.
What happened to Lions...they have made a profit of $1.1 million but only after their caters loaded the profit.

Coke used to sponsor the whole AFL, until about 2-3 years ago I think. That is why you will find they aren't sponsoring teams. Besides, Coke sells itself, why spend extra dosh when it ain't necessary?
