^On a serious note, I support your animal work for sure, TP, don't worry Wink It's great you and Morrigu specialise in that cause.

If there are moves within Vietnam for reform, which the article implies, then adding some diplomatic pressure could work, for sure. But if it ends up the equivalent of Abbott saying he's going to buy Indonesian fishing boats (i.e., slapstick interference), it's just as likely to delay reform.

I preferred the KFC thread.

Although I can see why the highfalutin would rather post in a 4 corners thread as opposed the KFC one. Seriously I can!

I support TP's thread bump choice! it bought back a lot of good times on here when fun was fun and threads were left to die and not turned into some sort of Frankenstein. to save a bit of bandwidth...

Looks like the puppet master and the puppet at work again... Oh well, back to the bored board....

It was a good thread, it bought out the redness in a lot of necks. Very Happy
I might bump it anyway, I've got a good KFC story... a follow up if I may!

Nothing wrong with some KFC.

Just wish they'd bring back the bean salad. Sad

Just goes to show: you can take the conversation out of the KFC thread, but you can't take KFC out of the conversation.

Might just drive down and get a Zinger burger, now I think of it... Confused Mr. Green

Yep, I have to confess walking past the KFC and drooling only this afternoon. I haven't had it for ages, though not for any grand moral reasons; the ales at the pub further down the street always seems to win that battle!

There is nothing remotely wrong with GM in and of itself. It's simply a very advanced and clever way of achieving exactly the same sorts of changes in plant or animal genestock that breeders have been achieving for thousands of years, and indeed that nature itself has been making for the last 3,600,000,000 years. (Approximately.)

The thing with GM, however, is that it is extraordinarily powerful, and while it can offer significant benefits done carefully and sensibly, it also offers huge potential for massive pharkups, ranging from the bone-headed right through to the devilishly subtle. And it is almost exclusively in the hands of large multi-national corporations accountable to no-one.

Although significant, the potential benefits are generally just extensions of and shortcuts to the same sorts of benefits that nature has evolved and that breeders have brought out using the traditional methods of scientific selective breeding. The potential for disaster, however, is much, much greater. In terms of raw power to make change, GM technology replaces the hammer and chisel of the plant or animal breeder with something more akin to dynamite. The risks are very real.
