I knew the story was coming but I had to turn it over as I just couldn't watch the cruelty anymore. All those poor animals and those brutes.

Was to do with animal cruelty in Indonesia... specifically how they slaughter cattle to eat and the fact Australian companies and the Australian government are funding it and supporting it.

I think they made a fairly large stretch with the govt supporting it. Surely no govt would want this on their hands. I just think no one has monitored what was going on.

Huge stink in this mornings press about it.

Was actually a very good doco. They do get monitored and trained on it. The government and the cattle industry in Australia are well aware of it and what's going on.

If you can stomach it, it's very much worth the watch. Will turn you off meat. Even the humane way of stunning the cattle first is a turn off.

It was very hard to watch, and I had to change programs. Something needs to be done ASAP. The inhumane slaughter and treatment was shocking.

please guys, add your voice, the more the better.

i have supported many of the campaigns through WSPA, buying honey for rescued bears in asia, and humane needles for rabbid dogs in vietnam.

please help these poor cattle, this is a national disgrace.

I watched the video on the Aged website. No excuse for treating an animal like that, not even ignorance.

Some cultures have no respect for life.

Human or animal.

^ just so. The Javanese Empire has carried on in exactly the same manner as its friends and mentors from Imperial Japan.

No worries about putting a swift stop to that, that's for sure. Poor old beasts of the earth. There are no doubt plenty of simple things that can be done to eliminate that sort of thing.

But as always this comes with an enormous caveat, namely that we need to be careful judging things outside of our own historical-economic circumstances. The closer to the edge of survival, the cheaper all life tends to become. Some peoples seem to stumble upon humaneness early for whatever peculiar fortune, but for others, including ourselves, it comes very late in economic development.

So there's no need to make this a specific cultural matter. It's clearly a general human problem. To put it into context, watch this documentary of the poor Indonesians who work in the sulphur mines on the edge of Indonesian volcanoes:
