During the pre-season matches, a "9-point" kick is on trial.
Pies_Chat believes we need a better name to describe a kick that scores a 9-pointer. It's not a goal, or a behind, it's 9 points.
Can anyone suggest a good, Pie based preferably, smooth to type, word for a 9-pointer.
Opening suggestion;
a "Daicos" because he was a master of the 9-pointer.

points are minor scores
goals are majors
9 pointers could be generals or ball bursters.

i could suggest something regarding a combination of the usual 6 for a goal and the new 9 but i'd quite possibly be banned from the board. ;-)

Did you know that if there is a relayed free kick or a 50m penalty from outside 50 that is taken (say) in the goal square, that's a 9 pointer.

But, if Pebbles takes a mark at 45 metres and backs out to kick from beyond the 50, that's only 6 points.

Trust the AFL - wouldn't it be simpler to just have the rule that if your feet are outside the 50 when you take the kick, that's a 9 pointer?

Methinks it will pretty soon become a 'niner'. From a Collingwood point of view, wouldn't that make it a "Freeza"?

That's an interesting one WPW. I guess Pebs should just go back a long way if he marks just inside 50 and then play on while he's running in to kick.

I wonder if they'll go to the 3rd umpire in some cases when the field umpire can't tell or wasn't bloody looking or was about 100m off the play. Just another can of worms isn't it. Still I think the whole idea is pretty good for the wiz cup games if they can get it right.

I agree with Bones a "ROCCA" sounds good.

I think it will probably just get called a "nine pointer".
The rules are:

Nine points will be awarded for goals scored outside the 50m arc.
When shooting on the run, a player must have his back foot outside the 50m line.
When taking a set shot, the player on the mark must be on or outside the 50m line which means it must have been marked outside 50.
A player awarded a 50m penalty which then takes him inside the 50m arc is also eligible to kick a 9 pointer but not if it is a relayed free kick.

Also:
A rushed behind is worth 3 points.

Any mark that travels backwards to a team mate will be called play on unless it is inside the players own 50m arc.
A sideways pass will be judged a mark.

Play on after a behind as soon as the field umpire gives the all clear without waiting for the goal umpire to wave the flag.

If you bleed black and white you'll never walk alone.

The callers on 6PR are going to call goals either a G6 or a G9.

the reason it's still nine points if you get a 50 m penalty is because if rocca marks 52 metres out, and I'm standing next to tarrant in the goal square, I can push tarrant around unti they give a free against me and turn what would've been nine points (probably) into only six points.

very handy if you're 8 points up with seconds to go...

Ben that's the funniest thing I've read for a while.

Give Taz a free for being pushed around, yeah that's gonna happen.

Ok, kudos to the Hawks board for these ones;

A "Chick" as in Daniel Chick because the field ump signals the goal ump with 9 fingers! And I will quote directly here from a poster called PlayOn;

"Imagine the Commeti style commentary..
"Rocca lines up for his 3rd Chicks goal of the day....... or
Not for the first time, Crawford is having a crack at a Chick......he scores "

A "Cadbury" because its a goal and a half!
