Its a tricky one and although i think it's unfair to single out one player amongst all the greats that have graced victoria park it's always intersting to see other peoples opinions.

Every time i sit back and ponder and think about so many greats i always come up with bobby rose have a look at this for a record

First played round 17 1946 against footscray
Last played Grand final against melb in 1955
Total games 152 plus 15 of those interstaters
Total goals 211, 14 in interstate games
Club honours...

Copeland trophy 1949,51,52,53.
Leading goal kicker in 1953 with 54 goals
Jubilee trophy 1951
Runners up reserves best and fairest 1946
Coach 1964 to 1971
1985-86
Vice president 1963-71
Life member
Runner up brownlow medal 1953
All australian 1953
Victorian coach 1967.

I reagrd bob rose as the perfect candidate for our greatest ever collingwood player and person, to me bob rose represents everything collingwood and i love the guy and why the football gods didnt ever give bob a premiership as coach will stuff me forever.
One of the most saddest sights recorded in TV history would be seeing bob rose consoleing the magpie players out on the ground after the 1970 grand final loss

It is my opinion he is our greatest as a person and collingwood player.

I always loved watching Peter Daicos. Kicking goals from any angle, kicking those beautiful long torps. I always remember the noise the crowd used to make anytime he went anywhere near the ball, especially in front of the members & sherrin stand at vic park ! You always knew something special was going to happen..

We are one,we are Collingwood ...

Yeah, those two are hard to top but for sheer exquisite skills and bullet-like delivery to his forwards, I go for the '58 and '59 Copeland winner, Thorald Merrett.

As a leader, Murray Weideman. Won the Copeland in '57,'60 and '61. I met him in '63 when he came to visit me in the Austin Hospital.

Donny.

I have a several.
Des Tuddenham - As tough as nails, and was very skillful. Could win a game off his own boot.
Bucks - The best modern day footballer I have ever seen, he will never ever give up.
John Greening - silky skills, opponents just coudn't get any where near him.
Phil Carmen (early years) - He took my breath away,up until that time I had never seen anything like him.
Pants - The raging bull, played hard and lived hard.

DISCLAIMER - If any of my posts are contrary to the views of Mike or any of the other Mods then my views and opinions are to be totally ignored.

Peter Daicos. He was in a class of his own. Amazing control of the football. For a similar reason, I always rated Mickey McGaune highly. I was disappointed when both of them left Collingwood.

Before Daic's, Peter McKenna and Len Thompson. My football memory only starts in the mid 70's, so I apoligise to the followers of players before that time.

Joffa, left out what maybe turn out to be Bobby Rose's greatest contribution to Collingwood. As President, he resisted the offers to relocate to Docklands, and instead, his board, negotiated a deal with the MCG that gives Collingwood a place in the next grand stand to be redeveloped (out of the Ponsford and Olympic).

Rule 1. Barrack for Collingwood
Rule 2. See rule 1.
Rule 3. There is no rule 3.

May the Magpies Prosper!

I will get in before MG.
John Greening was the man when i was a teenager that really inspired me.
22.etched in memory banks for all time.
Bob Rose was a champion player but he spoiled it for me when he coached, lost a few unlosable flags.
Ian Graham was my first hero.No 7 full forward.
others that i recall with regard
daicos, brown, tuddy, thommo, both richardson brothers, banksy, shawy, mark williams, billy picken, mick mcguane, bucks,in fact i love every bloke that pulls on the magpie jumper in combat.

What a question....you feel guilty leaving people out but I guess if I had to narrow it out down to 3.....no 5.....I'd go

Peter McKenna
Billy Picken
Darren Millane
Daics
Bucks....

but then I have to leave out Greening Barham Brownie and a whole heap of others.....

Can I have a top 20????

And a reason for Mckenna? Very easy...my first hero the one who made me want every day to be a Saturday....and those drop punts!

THE ZAPPER
joffa_the_man_in_gold

I had Peter Mckenna as a teacher in year 8. He would always get a laugth from us by telling us a story that would often start like this, "I remember the day I kicked 20 goals from 100 metres out against the wind..."
