Well ... I've just been reading the prophecies of Nostradamus, and I came across this one which might be of interest.

"A multitude shall sing a song many times
As a great leader does sip from a cup
The bird shall be victor or vanquished
And there shall be many tears"

Hmmmmmmm?

Think about it.

The "multitude" is all the Collingwood fans singing a song, obviously "Good Old Collingwood Forever" and the great leader (Nathan Buckley, of course) is sipping from the premiership cup. The great bird, of course, is a magpie ... and the "tears" will be tears of joy ...

But then again, maybe the great bird is a crow ... or a hawk ... or an eagle ... or a swan ... and it says they shall be "victor or vanquished", so we don't really know if they're going to win or lose. The "great leader" could be anyone. All we know is that the crowd will be singing a song many times. It might be "We're a happy team at Hawthorn" ... or the "Pride of South Australia" ...

Gee ... this is getting confusing ...

All I've been able to work out is that a team with the emblem of a bird will either win the premiership or not win it. And their supporters will be crying ... but it could be from happiness or sadness ... we don't really know.

Hmmmmmmm?

Yeah ... that sounds like a typical Nostradamus prediction.

Didn't this happen this year?? And wasn't there a few tears by supporters, players and coach?? And of course no-one can deny that a great man did drink from the cup............I'm sure I saw Mal have a slurp or two!!

well during my short lifetime 1970- with the won or lost principle the nostradamus prophecy there has happened in

70 Collingwood lost
71 Hawthorn won
75 Hawthorn lost
76 Hawthorn won
77 Collingwood lost
78 Hawthorn won
79 Collingwood lost
80 Collingwood lost
83 Hawthorn won
84 Hawthorn lost
85 Hawthorn lost
86 Hawthorn won
87 Hawthorn lost
88 Hawthorn won
89 Hawthorn won
90 Collingwood won
91 Hawthorn won Eagles lost
92 Eagles won
94 Eagles won
96 Swans Lost
97 Crows won
98 Crows won
02 Collingwood lost

Through reading all this i am in awe of hawthorn from 1971-1991 amazing - how dare people compare north and the eagles of the 90s to the great hawk era.

Hard at it. The Collingwood way.

Cam, I'm assuming you left out 1981 due to the disasterous scoreline?
