JA was always a defender. Could be another MM masterstroke to create a well rounded player, just look at Daisy now.
If JA rips it up down back, who goes? The sack hits form, Brown is still Presti's replacement. Where do you put Maxy? Interesting times ahead I reckon. _________________ Buon Giorno |

Great game today. Fraser played really well and actually took some good contested marks, kicked three. Medders set up probably half a dozen goals and JA played really well in the position we all originally thought he would play when he first came to the club, CHB, he may yet be the future Jimmy Clement we all hoped he would be... Those three were probably our best three on the ground. May be time for Davis to come down for a run and find some touch. If Dick is out injured then there is a spot for Medders. Not sure, but i reckon Maxwell shouldn't risk his calf on West Coast and give Goldy another week to prove he is a better option than Macaffer.... _________________ When it's all said and done, and the Premierships won. The only place you can hide Maxy is up forward, he is NOT a defender, just an unaccountable accumulator. _________________ Millane King of the Wing |

I reckon he should be used as a true utility, he can go forward, he would dominate a wing with stints in the middle which has worked well before, and go down back regularly depending on the side / state of the game, and his leadership is unquestioned. I am critical of him, admittedly, but only as a permanent defender, I can see him doing a whole lot more. _________________ Buon Giorno |

Add Medhurst to the mixplaying well 4-5 goals as assists then they did what we want them to do. Go pies. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Collingwood secured its seventh win of the year with a 39-point victory over the Box Hill Hawks on Sunday afternoon; 13.18 (96) to 7.15 (57).
Led by a best on ground performance from John Anthony (31 possession) playing a role down back, the VFL Magpies looked in control for most of the afternoon against the home side.
Josh Fraser and Scott Reed added three goals each as Collingwood overcame a goalless opening term to maintain its undefeated record away from home.
Collingwoodfc.com.au will publish a player-by-player review on Monday morning with special comments by a Collingwood coach.

Anthony did excellent in defence playing mostly on Dowler and when he wasn't there Lisle. He read the play well, went for his marks, backed into packs, had good disposal and shut his opponent down.
I was hoping he would do well but he out performed all expectations I had of him today.
Fraser was excellent and got better as the game went on. His running 1 handed pickup in a pack was sublime and he kicked some monster goals.
I was surprised Curnow got named as BOG for BH as I thought Tom Hunter did a really good job tagging him and I can see him becoming our tagger at AFL level.
Medhurst was good and did some nice things without dominating, I'd leave him there for another week. He was on a VFL listed player all game.
Wood was quiet but he rarely played ruck, mainly KP forward in the first half when the ball rarely got down there. Fraser would have rucked for 75% of the game, Wood about 15% and Shae 10%.
O'Bree got better as the game went on but probably not enough to get a recall. _________________ Carn' the PIES!!!! |

Interesting, we had 4 blokes in the team over 200cm and only one of them, Wood, is basically a pure ruckman. The other 3 are KPP/followers. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Went down for a look at Box Hill today & was mighty impressed with Jack at full back. He was unstoppable all day and for the first time in a long while looked like he was enjoying his footy. Great to see. |

Absolutely. All the right players just keep knocking on the door.
Very pleasing to see JA grabbed his opportunity down back. The bloke has had a tough run and I reckon this is reward for effort. Sometimes a player just has to hang in there and do the right things until the appropriate spot comes along.
Thanks all for the great info everyone, as always. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.
