My dads cousin apparently opperated (minor) on him in the back of the ambulance. Says it was one of the worst injuries he's seen.

Dad always talks about Greening being the best player he had ever seen. Sad really!

We used to own a Milkbar where I live and John Greening's dad used to come in every day. Great bloke, still see him around a bit.

In about 1987, when I was in another job, I ran into O'Dea. He had a small business in Mentone. We statred talking about footy and naturally enough the Greening incident came up.
He said that he had many regrets in life but none bigger than what he did to Greening. He said he considered giving the game away after that but was convinced to stay by the club. I asked him if he had ever apologised to Greening. He said that he was too full of remorse to say anything to him.
