Seems someone has a brain that plays or rather did play for the lions.. Headland is officially out of there! Good for him I say - Well done. Seems that extra money in their salary cap doesn't work all the time.

Wants to go Home to WA... i think he would perfer the eagles as he is a WCE supporter but dont think his to fussy as long as it them or the Dockers, but brissie have said they will not trade with them, so the draft might be his only option, and i think he will get picked up befor ether of the WA teams get a chance

Truly I don't blame the blfc for not wanting to trade him. Players must be taught that they are professionals and that the club is not going to bend to all the whims of players. They invested time and effort into him, and just when he is starting to play well he wants to go home. Let him be drafted. I believe we should be doing the same with Nick Davis. Let the draft sort 'em out. They are professionals and home sickness is for little kids not grown men making over $100,000 per year. Home is where you make it, not a place.

The following has been taken from an article by Matt Burgan on afl.com.au
quote:
“We’ve got a bit of compassion for Des because he has a personal situation with his partner and having another baby, but ultimately we have to do what is best for the footy club,” Matthews told the website.
“We couldn’t possibly imagine any compensation for Des that would not leave us a fair bit behind."
“From our point of view Des will either be with us, or put himself in the December draft if he chooses to go, but that is not going to get him back to Perth.”
Does any else see the problem here? How can just leaving him for the draft without doing a deal possibly be the best outcome for brissie? Not that I care but what a load of crap. I mean is that putting pressure on the guy or what. He either stays in brisbane or comes to Melbourne (early draft pick). Doesn't leave him with much choice. What this means of course is that doing the best thing for brisbane is forcing him to stay, without giving him a choice. I wonder if anyone at Collingwood has thought of this?

If Brissy force him to stay, I'll bet $1000 that he will be nowhere as good as this year.

exactly AnthonyC, he has said he will either be drafted or go to Melbourne for a year and THEN get drafted, I don't see how Brissy can't at least get SOMETHING for him. Draft picks are Always nice.

I saw his interview last night, and he said that he would prefer to chance his luck in the draft and sign a one year deal, meaning he would be at least one year away from returning to Perth, as opposed to remaining in Brisbane on a multi year contract.
At this stage, Carlton seem to be the front runners in picking him up via the draft.

Yeh, the Herald Sun reported today that Headland was calling Brisbane's bluff and was prepared to do a stint with a Victorian club for a year in order to get back home to WA.
