You could very well be right. Its going to take a very special effort by any horse to beat Northerly in any race this Spring. The horse doesnt know the meaning of the word give up However this weeks races at Flemington will shed more light on the Caufield Cup. Fields of Omagh should be the big mover if it can perform well

Well, I guess it depends how much rain. If it's an absolute quagmire the best advice is DON'T BET.
But I doubt if that will be the case. If the track rating is no worse than "dead" she'll be fine. |

Northerly the street fighter won again. However Fields of Omagh should win Caufield Cup. Pentastic is also one to watch for in both Cups. Rain Gauge on track for the Melb Cup.

Unfortunately, the market value of my turf consultancy business has plummeted after today's inglorious run by Magical Miss. I just couldn't work out S.Arnold's ride. Why go forward early? Did the mare just take charge of him or something? I knew she was stuffed 1200 metres from home.
Great win by Northerley ... but questions MUST be asked about Magical Miss and S.Arnold. The Stewards report should make interesting reading.
Ah, well ... as they say in the classics, "That's racing." |

Fields of Omagh will beat Northerly in the Caufield Cup. The impressive runner from Friday night was Helenus.

Well, the stewards report told us very little really, except that Magical Miss had to be eased when Northerley shifted out at the 1300. That would explain why she appeared to be going backwards 1200 from home.
More telling was Bart's post-race comments as reported in today's Sunday Hun.
Apparently, the maestro was happy with the run ... and he added the comment that it "wasn't the Grand Final". Now, read what you will into that ... and far be it from me to cast aspersions upon the integrity of one of racing's more colourful characters ...
But you know what they say about racing ... the sport of the "quick and the dead"
Anyway, there's a good race coming up for Magical Miss ... it's a distance event at Flemington in early November ... I can pretty much guarantee the riding tactics will be a bit different that day. |
