Is it still quirky and entertaining enough but it was a mixed bag of movie genres for his or hers and had no lasting depth anymore? |

Really?

It's a bad year for cinema if that wins best picture IMHO. | After what won last year, it's a better movie. Not for everyone but I liked it. I just watched "Last Flag Flying", three ex Vietnam vets come together to bury one of their sons who was killed in action. |

Reckon Lady Bird might get the nod this year. Good combination of an underdog film, directed by a woman with a strong female lead (‘tis the zeitgeist, and the academy are nothing if not virtue signallers) and apparently pretty good. I haven’t seen Three Billboards, but it sounds like it’s trying a little too hard from what I’ve read about it. Call Me by Your Name would be a deserving winner – been a while since a film I actually liked won (I’m not holding my breath!) _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Blade Runner has to be one of the most overrated movies of all time. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

I liked Lady Bird. But 3 Billboards is better. I, Tonya is probably better too.
I don't know how I feel about Call Me By Your Name. It confused me. _________________ #TEAMBUCKS

I couldn't work out if it was meant to be a lovely coming of age love story, or an inappropriate relationship. _________________ #TEAMBUCKS

If it helps, in the book their ages are 17 and 24 (though Oliver looked a good decade older than that in the film). I didn’t feel the film glossed over those issues – Oliver is cautious and worried about hurting Elio – but it seemed very clear to me that this is very much what Elio wants, and that it is a positive formative experience for him. That’s not to say that nobody could possibly have any legitimate ethical problems with the relationship, but I think that Call Me by Your Name, like any good film, presents things realistically enough that viewers are free to draw their own conclusions. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Just watched Dunkirk, hubby’s choice, I’m ashamed to say I had no idea about this amazing story. Well done not overly gory, sad, happy, proud to be a Pom! Such brave brave ordinary civilians. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |
