It Follows

Pretty good suspense/horror film heavily inspired by the last decent era of horror in the 70s/80s. I fell completely out of love with the genre thanks to all the goreporn like Saw and Hostel or the chuck worthy gross horror like The Human Centipede. Returning to tension, uneasiness and buildup based on your own mind rather than smashing your face in a dumpster of dirty syringes make It Follows the first decent horror movie I've seen in decades.

4 Stars.

I'll have to watch it but IMO there has been some more than decent horror/suspense films in recent times.

Amongst others:

The Conjuring, The Woman in Black, Paranormal Activity, Signs, Insidious, Let the right one in, Drag me to hell, The Orphanage, 28 days later, The Descent, The Mist, The Others, 1408.

Not bad but not great.

It's interesting that Marvel comics was always edgier than DC, yet Marvel gets in bed with Disney and gets nice a messagey and DC goes with Warner brothers and gets hardcore.

Black Widow trying to get romantic with Banner? Confused

I stopped reading the comics well before Spirit or Ultron ever came about so I take it on face value from the movie and apart from Ultron being an AI thing gone wrong, I still have no idea WTF Spirit is supposed to be or be able to do with an infinity stone for a bindi.

And then at the end you have Marvels rip off of DC's Darkseid trash talking.

There's a whole piece you could actually devote some brain cells to about AI, but that would require me to be sober while watching and actually care enough to undertake that thought process.

Give it 3.5

Ha! So you're an old school comic book guy, and I'm new to it all after being sucked into the world by my 9 year old! Very Happy
(I've googled a fair few of the old back-stories due to seeing the movies and playing the Marvel Lego Superheroes PS3 game with the lad.)

I agree, too much silly cheesy stuff in this one more so than the previous Marvel movies, but still enjoyable enough. Hope they pull that back a bit going forward.
I do like how they're tying all these movies and characters together with good use of the infinity stones.

Looking forward to the next Guardians of the Galaxy which I think was the best stand alone movie of the lot so far.
And looking forward to Deadpool which should be a little more "edgy" so to speak.

Marvel's doing good stuff in the movies, DC is working hard in the TV space.

Just finished watching season 3 of Arrow, can't wait for season 4, and also season 2 of Flash. Deadpool is the marvel rip off of Deathstroke. The difference is all Marvel attitude.

Suicide squad will be a must watch movie, even if it does come from a post crisis time I don't quite follow. Every bloke who has an ex will relate to Harley Quinn with half a mongrel and a wince.

And yeah, Guardians of the galaxy is a hoot of a movie. If a sequel is anywhere near as good it might actually tempt me into the cinema.

Don't know much about Deathstroke. It's been all Marvel my introduction to the comic book character world. Apart from the mega star characters like a Batman in the mainstream of course.

I just saw this and almost wet my pants!! Laughing
Knew the movie was in the making, but didn't think it'd look like this.....

Deathstroke.

Having a heart attack while involved in vigorous masturbation.

Not a bad way to go.

The Look of Silence, an incredibly powerful documentary about the Indonesian genocide of 1965. Along with its companion film, The Act of Killing, it's absolutely essential viewing for anyone interested in the history of our region, or just for those wondering what effect mass murder has on the psychology of perpetrators and victims.

A bit of a quibble with your description, despite the large number of deaths I don't think 'genocide' is the correct term to use. 'Massacre' maybe? After all Communist isn't a race.
