I hear on the news we have pulled out of the race for Dustin Martin but who has actually said we have? Nothing from the club as far as I knew..

I think we would be silly not to chase him especially now that his currency has dropped significantly?

Football wise he is a perfect suit to our side! I guess it's just how much trouble he is off the field.. Surely we can help curb the behavior and pick him up

I just think its silly to rule a player like Martin out without even putting any thought into him.. He would make a huge difference to our forward line

Bucks would look like an idiot after demanding a culture change and then grabbing Martin.

I agree that his off-field behaviour needs to be addressed, but it shouldn't have a major impact on our final decision of whether to pursue him or not. This is what I said about why it's worth taking a risk in recruiting Martin if it does play out that way. This is what I said on another thread which was discussing the prospect of Martin leaving the Tigers and going to another club.

Quote:
I notice that many are not keen on Martin because of his off-field antics and fair enough that people hold that opinion, but I'm in the category of let's pursue him heavily and secure him. Can you imagine a midfield consisting of Swan, Pendlebury, Beams, Martin, Ball, Dwyer and J.Thomas. The idea just sounds brilliant and so appealing at the same time, and this is provided that Dale Thomas ends up leaving the club in the end.

I can understand people's reluctance to not want Martin at Collingwood due to the off-field issues that have been evident in the past but I feel this has to be overlooked somewhat provided what he does off the field doesn't interfere with what he does on the field. He's proven to be a great player and shown great potential even when these supposed off-field antics have been occurring, however since it does seem like that Bucks is trying to 'fix' the culture of the club, then I can't see Martin at the club next year. If Daisy ends up leaving we'll definitely have some bargaining power to go after Martin as we'll probably receive a first-round compensation pick for losing Thomas as many are anticipating.

If I was the coach, I'd be pursuing Martin heavily regardless of what he gets up to off-the-field. It would be a risk but I feel it would be worth it and who knows he may mature as he grows older and wiser, plus he hasn't reached his peak yet. I'll be expecting him to peak around 2015-2017 so this is the perfect time to obtain him.

Overall I agree with you Richo Smile

As well as Dustin Martin why not get Dale Garlett and Mitchel Thorp to the club if you have that much faith the club could turn these guys, with undoubted talent into solid AFL players. They would make the old Rat Pack look like model citizens!

It will be interesting to see who is brave ( or stupid) enough to give these talented guys with doubtful records on their commitment a go next year.

According to Damien Barrett on Triple M this arvo Richmond have lowered their offer to Martin, $420K per year about $80K less than original.

Also said that it was Martin who asked his manager to shop him around at $600K per year. No clubs interested at that price.

He'd be a sensational pick up. Wouldn't care if he was an axe murderer. Might be an inconvenience if he got caught though Smile

Surely this year has demonstrated what happens when the playing group loses focus on team sacrifice and commitment. Just see how Freo and Port go about their football. NO individuals in winning teams. Martin is not and will never be a team player. He is fools gold.

Sorry, but the 2010 premiership was FULL of individuals!
Daisy, Heater, Swanny, Harry, Dids, Wellers, etc... but they also got along very well with the "Family men" such as Maxy, Jolls, Bally, etc. They were just a very tight group, as close as I've ever seen. One of the big reason we were such a succesful travelling side, they enjoyed each others company and were bonded by a single mindedness when it came to winning. The minute they crossed that line they were one.
They became a "champion team". Since Bucks took over that has dissipated to some extent, the question is how much?

Our first pick for Martin??

Please.

If Daisy goes and we get pick 11 we need to replace the X Factor, as long as we don't get to the end of the year and complain about Martin being the 'Why?' Factor.....
