Just thought (to settle the minds of nervous supporters) I'd put the Math to you of a 4th spot position.
At this stage if collingood was to lose (based on a 170point winners margin) by 125 points and North was to win by 125 points then we could (yeah right) drop to 5th .
Great gutsy win today boys , not pretty , but effective. And remember that the best side in September wins the prise. Last year Hawthorn nearly got to the Grand Final crawling home with 3 losses to finnish the year.
Im always opptomistic, though a good showing next week would certainly revive parts of my hyperthalamus. well done to Joffa , was that the first post siren dressing for the gold wig ???
Go pies

Mate, the way we played today today, we WILL lose by 125 points next week.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed that the Purple Roos get rolled.

Er ... excuse me ... but W.T.F. is a "hyperthalamus"?

I thought we were trying to clean up the language around here.

yeah Alf
you got me there
Its a hypothalamus - and its part of the brain The main function of the hypothalamus is homeostasis, or maintaining the body's status quo. Factors such as blood pressure, body temperature, fluid and electrolyte balance, and body weight are held to a precise value called the set-point. Although this set-point can migrate over time, from day to day it is remarkably fixed. And when we lose it goes bloody hay wire

I learnt that in science last term! There is the cerebellum, cerebrum, brain stem & hypothalamus! And i got to cut up a sheep's brain with all those parts and it was so cool! And i was talking to myself playing surgery and i looked up to see the whole class staring at me while i am going "quick hand me the scalpel" etc!
Love always, Alyssa xoxo

I did the maths tonight.
If we lose 50-150 next week and the rangakoos win 150-50.we still end up 1 and a bit%in front of them.
its a matter of where now not if.

Jesus, Lisey ... I'm getting worried about you.

Voodoo ... and cutting up sheep's brains ...

I'm scared to go to sleep tonight. I'm worried that the ghost of some long-departed sheep will come to me in a nightmare and cut my hypothalamus out. Then I'll be even more bloody insane than I am already.

im as happy as anyone that we got the 4 points and therefore secured top 4 and the double chance but isnt anyone else(other than alf) even marginally worried by the way we played today? 2 weeks from finals and we struggled over the 15th placed side. the boys were flat pretty much all over the ground and while 15 mins of half decent footy might beat the saints, we'll be slaughtered by...well, just about anyone in the finals, let alone brissy/port in the first week if we repeat that effort. not trying to downplay the significance of making the finals(christ, how good is it?) as that was our ultimate goal at the start of the year. but given the position we're in, i wouldve hoped we could take advantage and make a prelim final. which we may yet do but not if we continue as we have been.

I was worried about the way were playing but I believe that the win will give us confidence. Forget the placings, St. Kilda have played some hard tough footy the last few weeks and were always going to prepare themselves to play against us.

They wanted a scalp and tried their hardest to take it. Collingwood played average and still won. However, like I said I think the boys were rapt that they ground out a win and that will give them the confidence shot they need.

yeah but we dont know if we want to be 3rd or 4th yet depending on who wins out of brissy and port. i personally would prefer to play port and they will prolly lose to brissy so it would be better to be 3rd.

No matter what happens we want to finish 4th. That way we either play brissy or port in Melbourne if we get to the prelim. If we finish 3rd and don't win first week we go away for the prelim so fourth is our best bet.

Can someone clear this up for me?

Imagine if Adelaide and Collingwood both win in week 1 of the finals. Both sides go straight into a Preliminary Final. O.K. Then imagine that Brisbane and Port both win their week 2 matches.

Do Adelaide and Collingwood get the home Preliminary Finals (as a reward for winning in week 1) or do Brisbane and Port get the home Preliminary Finals (as a reward for finishing 1st and 2nd)?

Let's ignore, for a moment, the guaranteed M.C.G. finals rule. The point I'm trying to clear up is whether the home game is awarded on the basis of who wins the week 1 Qualifying Finals or whether it's awarded on the basis of who finished higher in the Home and Away.
