agree 500%!
My heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones and have been affected in any way by the devestating bushfires. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

Firebugs relighting Victorian fires: CFA
Quote: | The Country Fire Authority says it is unsure of how many arsonists there are, or their identities, but has confirmed that some of the fires raging across tens of thousands of hectares are being deliberately relit. |

^ I just posted this on another thread, but I'll repeat it here after your news PP.

It has to be a sickness (pyromania), but you would like to think that people would have a little more rational control over their actions, being aware of the consequences.
But it's murder pure and simple, and life without release for proven firebugs who have lit fires that kill seems reasonable enough. Actually, they have to be locked away for their own safety. A known firebug of these terrible fires would not live long in the community (that's not right, but totally understandable). Have these firebugs no conscience?
One firebug arrested last week (fortunately no one was killed), was a 19 year old CFA Volunteer. They got onto him when he threw a temper tantrum when they would not allocate him to a truck fighting the fire. |
From what I understand a reasonable percentage of people who do get caught lighting bushfires are actually CFA volunteers. In this case, where fires in dangerous areas are being relit, I think the authorities need to look closely at their own. It's a horrible thought, but quite possible. |

I shudder to imagine it, but I think conservatively you can double that figure now. There are so many houses that haven't been checked, so many cars on remote roads where people were caught fleeing the fires. I think this will be right up there with Black Friday 1939 and Ash Wednesday 1983, in terms of the toll.
The most important thing people must do now is reach out to the families who have lost loved ones, or have lost everything they own.
The last thing we need now is people in the media second guessing or trying to lay blame somewhere. There's a time for that sort of investigation - but not now! Now it's just grief, care and a lot of love to heal the hurt. |

Things got pretty hairy in Bendigo yesterday as well. Neighbours and I had hoses and buckets at hand just in case as the fires weren't that far away from us.
I'm still waiting to hear from friends both here in Bendigo and down Gippsland way so it's still pretty scary.
Feel for those who have lost loved ones and homes.......not to mention our native parks and animals as well...... |

Beechworth is the latest in serious danger (as of 12.05am).
But there are dozens of serious fires on this list. It might pay to check if you have relatives and friends living in these areas. |
cheers jack. |

Marg, I can't imagine what you were going through yesterday, nor what others have gone through. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |
