Post subject: Our last finals team...........where are they now?Reply with quote

This appeared in last sundays AGE.
My comments in brackets.

The last final for the Pies was in 1994 in Perth
We lost by 2 points after a stirring comeback. Can anyone remember the last 30 seconds?

Here are the 21 players involved.

Gavin Brown : Collingwood assistant coach.
(has there been a more courageous player....ever?)

Nathan Buckley : Collingwood captain
(for a long time yet)

Micheal Christian : TV & Radio commentator
(and very successful, read rich, stockbroker.
for those in Melb, his wife does the tatts2 numbers nightly)

Gavin Crossisca : Kangaroos assistant coach

Tony Francis : Returned to SA

Mark Fraser : Aspiring AFL umpire
(can't wait for his first game!)

Jon Hassell : Returned to Melbourne this year after spell with
South Adelaide (also played rest of AFL career at Hawthorn)

Trent Hotton : Carlscum utility, plays defence, attack and ruck

Craig Kelly : Marketing Guru (ned? really?) handling many AFL players
(lucky he handles 'em different to how he used to, otherwise
he'd need a dentist on staff!)

Shane Kerrison : Collingwood runner

Jason McCartney : Key defender in career best form for Kangaroos
(if it wasn't for his dad he'd still be at the Pies, still
I suppose premiership medallions are his ultimate
reward)

Mick McGuane : Coaching Gisborne in Bendigo Football League
(a handy coach by all reports. will he make the TOC?)

Damian Monkhorst : Still playing with Woori Yallock
(which means he still hasn't been to the dentist!)

Gary Pert : Working with a Melbourne radio station.

Sav Rocca : Consistant (?) goalkicker with Kangaroos

Scott Russell : Playing amatuer footy in SA
(one of our best ever players IMHO)

Paul Sharkey : Playing with Golden Square in Bendigo

Tony Shaw : TV and radio commentator
(and bagger of all things CFC)

Andrew Tranquilli : playing with Springbank in central highlands
(thought that said "springfield" when I first saw it!)

Shane Watson : Playing with Northern Bullants in VFL

Paul Williams : Playing with Sydney, won B&F in 2001

Interesting.

Don't ever speak of those last 30 seconds. I was at that game down the end we were kicking to in the temporary stand. It was deja vu from the 1992 game at subi when we came from 24 points down at 3/4 time to win by a point. Again coming from 24 points down at 3/4 time we fell short by 2 points....after Mick (the traitor) - I can't go on from here....but that tosser woosha said something to him that I will never forgive....the ultimate in blasphemy and will rot in hell for his commments. Sorry people, I'm still hurting over this one.

OH NO! Please don't bring back those memories, that was the day Chris Lewis caused me to almost break my TV in the 3rd Q! Blanch has summed up the horrid last Q memories. And BTW, we didn't lose by two points technically, we only lost by 1 because if anyone remembers that Chris Mainwaring had a shot and it clearly went on the full but was paid a point!

Hey theres nothing wrong with bringing back some of those memories.Admittidly some of the names should be shelved, but those players were the best at the time and probably are still the best, but who knows.
Sav,should have his head examined,as should a few of the others, but we dont hear about these things up here.
I notice that 3AK have hired two Dorks to give their commentary.
Thems the breaks.

Blanch, if you think that whoosher said what I think you think he said (?) then think again.
That has been denied by whoosher, and more importantly by McGuane himself.
Mick BTW reckons whooshers a top bloke and holds no grudge about that last qtr incident.

Really? Did he miss at both the Crows and Roos?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Still, as I said, blame his father not him.

I think McCartney missed one of them due to suspension. Pretty sure he crossed from Crow to Roos the year the Crows beat the poos in a GF. McCartney's dad was an Essendon nut wasn't he?

Dunno about the Essenscum bit LD, but I know he was SA based and wanted the boy back there for the Crows.
BTW, Mccartney is probably having his best year of footy this year. Has become very important for the Poos without Carey.

Black_White, I can only go by what an eagle player standing very near him at the time has told me. This person is a friend and wouldn't rile me up on this matter. I guess you and I will never know for sure what was really said will we?

Your right Blanch, we will never know. But I read an interview with Mick McGuane last year and that was put to him. He flatly denied it and made the statement about whoosher being a great bloke.
If Mick has no probs with it, why should we?
