Post subject: A brief history of the Nick's Posting XXII.Reply with quote

The Nick's Posting XXII came into being on the 8th of April, 2005. Cam was the originator of the concept, and inaugural coach, and his team was as follows:

Quote:
B: BW_Phantom, Northern Pie , Damien
HB: Phantom, Joel, Tess
C: MarkT, Hoggy, Assassin
HF: Culprit, Johnno26, Dale61
F: Canberra, Cooldewd, Dr Alf
R: Cannibal, Proud Pies, Labrooy

Int: Zeke 1.2, 3rd Degree, Lonestar, Steve

Emerg: London Dave, WhyPhilWhy, Spoljar

Just one month later (to the day) Cam stepped down as coach. That's right, all you sooky-la-las who complained about "the good old days under Cam" during my tenure as coach - he was only coach for a month! This was a period of Brett Scott proportions!

Record during this period:
1 win, 4 losses.
For shame.

OK, so I'm just pissed off that I never got picked. But that was OK, there was a new coach waiting in the wings!

After substantial debate from various intellectuals and Zeke over the future of the Nick's posting team, DaVe86 led a glorious coup d'etat which saw him installed as the new coach, becoming the first in a short line of Daves who would hold this position.

His first team, posted on June 2, 2005, was as follows:

Quote:
Backs: Lone Ranger, Skaman, Rosspies
HBacks: Mortis, London Dave, Dale61
Centres: Proud Pies, Johnson #26, 3rd degree
HForwards: David From Canberra, Joel, foxychick
Forward: nuxta, NorthernPie, Two_Pies
Ruck: Madness, Steak, Burnsy17

Bench: bringbackheathscotland, Nath, Tess, bokka

Emerg: Clemo, Zeke, Sultan Of Spin

Injured: Spoljar, Eunos, uuu...the Lonestar, mudlark, steve

Rookie List: pietillide, Iceman, i_luv_licca,1eyedpie

Team Doctor: Dr Alf

Coach: DaVe86

Mascot: Hal

Several esteemed wankers consider this to be a far superior side, as it now incorporated a rookie list, a team doctor, and HAL. The team was also improved by the inclusion of a particularly wonderful person called "David from Canberra" on the half-forward flank. Sadly, not only was he dropped the next week, but suffered the extra ignominy of not even being listed in the 'outs' (a bitter humiliation for any Nickster).

DaVe86 led the team during hard times. He continued in the coaching role until the conclusion of the 2005 season, but did not seek to renew his contract, and the team was left without a coach at the beginning of the 2006 season.

It seemed the concept had achieved a timely and graceful demise. However, it was not to be. Halfway through 2006, some young upstart decided the board was in need of a couple of years of blatant favouritism, embarrassingly bad humour and annoying overuse of the word 'lol'.

Entirely coincidentally, David from Canberra posted his first team exactly one year after DaVe86's initiation as coach, on the 2nd of June, 2006.

Quote:
This isn't IT, ok, or maybe I can be like caretaker coach for a week Laughing Really sorry to anyone who missed out, but there's so many posters I didn't know who to pick lol Razz

B: Dale_61, Mortis, 3rd Degree
HB: Burnsy17, Ray Fidge, Eddiesmith
C: Rand Corp, Johnson #26, die4pies
HF: Tess, Dave86, London Dave
F: Troppo, Dave the man, aceofstace
R: Proud Pies, Cam, Joel
INT: Joffa, Tarrant in the Pocket, Smash Em, rudeboy
EMG: ad4eva, cannibal, Magpie_Dan

team runner: Hal
team doctor: Dr. Alf (of course lol)

opinions please Razz lol naturally there will have been some very worthy ones missing out because I didn't think of them at the time lol. Anyhow Razz

I think the only thing you can really say to that is... lol?

2 years of nuisance value followed, with the biggest innovation being the replacement of the number 22 with Roman numerals.

The beginning of 2008 saw the replacement of the popular Johnson #26 as captain with Dave the Man. This was the beginning of the end for David's regime - teams were soon only posted intermittently, and I eventually announced my resignation, so as to dodge impeachment. This was the final team I named, on May 16, 2008:

Quote:
Nick's Posting XXII v Saints
FB: EBB, 3rd Degree, Favourites 2008
HB: Sherrife, Proud Pies, fan4collingwood
C: The Ru is on Fire, Skaman, Frankiboy
HF: Dave the Man (c), DaVe86, Troppo
FF: Tannin, -magpies are 2 good-, Jock McPie
R: Stui Magpie, Magpie Greg, Zakal
Crazy insane interchange: zoom_ZOOM, nomadjack, The Prototype, Rudeboy

EMG: Burnsy17, Joel, uuuuu... the LONEstar

So began a new era, as the Nick's board searched for a new coach. Jock McPie was the sole candidate in the election, and was thus appointed as the fourth coach of the Nick's BB Posting XXII. His first team (posted on 11/6/2008) was as follows:

Quote:
Nick’s Posting XXII
Vs Carlton

B: Magpie Since 1986 skaman Dave The Man
HB: spoljar Tannin zoom_Zoom
C: ktszyu1 Carringbush Cigar favourites 2008
HF: Johnson#26 RudeBoy frankiboy [vc]
F: DaVe86 die4pies burnsy17
R: stuimagpie 3rd degree Pied Piper [c]
Interchange: Joffa Corfe, ANNODAM, jack_spain, magpiegreg
Emergencies: MACDAICOS Zakal Proud Pies

It's always been a lot of fun, and may this Nick's institution continue for many a year.

Long live favouritism!

I'll give you my brief history, 2 games, 2 wins, 17 goals from a wing....and then banished, shunted to the drudgery of a builders labourer. The Adrian McAdam of Nicks!

Try spotting the only player who appears in all five teams named above... (not including emergencies of course) Smile

one other thing, the establishment of a reserves team to provide a greater opportunity yada, yada, yada ... you missed that in the potted history.

how do the winning %s compare? i've had to rebuild after the dark, dark years which i can only liken to the 'shaw' years. we don't speak much of them.

ummm... two finals campaign and a pretty good start to 2008, thank you very much! (do we count games where I forgot to name the team? There were a lot of those Embarassed) Poor old Cam and Dave coached during the dark days of 2005, though... I think we finished bottom 4, from memory. You've had 4 wins and 5 losses at this stage, so I suppose I'd be the only one with a better than 50% success rate. Smile

Also, you weren't the originator of the reserves format. In the very first thread Stoliboy named a 'Williamstown' team, and Eddiesmith contributed one intermittently during my period as coach. However, I guess yours is the first 'official' one.

now, now, why break the nick's habit of a life time and allow truth to get in the way of a good story. Wink

Jason Wild played in a grand final win for Yarra Wonga in 2006 ! Stoka35 couldn't get a kick in a street fight. Stoka probably lined up for 'Stryper' tickets this year at Waverely park.
