Do you reckon it's almost as much of a big deal for guys as girls these days?

I know I'm kind of self-concious these days, almost can't leave the house without gelling my hair... I don't know if that makes me metro but it sure isn't normal (or shouldn't be )

I know my girlfriend is pretty obsessed with how she looks, but then again some of the guys I've known are almost at that level themselves... so... what's going on there?

And yeah (usual disclaimer) sorry, I'm really bored. So I'm posting in the Chick's Channel

I think that's a better way to be... and after all, real friends won't care about these superficialities in the long run.

Of course it depends on the person, but I reckon it's more common to find guys obsessed with their looks these days than you would have found 50 or even 10 years ago. And (this kind of relates to that metrosexual thread) I've always had a sneaking suspicion that girls are more attracted to a guy who has enough confidence to leave the house without his hair gelled

I like guys who have the confidence in themselves to leave the house not all prettied up but it's also nice when you go out and you know they've made an effort with how they look because they don't want to embarrass you by turning up in ripped jeans and a Metallica t-shirt.
As far as myself is concerned, the older you get the less you care about what other people think and you tend to dress for yourself and your partner. So as long as I'm happy and he's happy I don't care!

I think it's a big issue with school girls because there is so much pressure from everyone. From your friends to other people who think they are above everyone else, then some boys.
I know a lot of people who feel the pressure to wear what everyone else is wearing, have their hair the same, be skinny like they think everyone else is. Out of the people I'm in contact with most days it seems to be the girls that are more self consious and worry about what everyone else thinks. Rather than the boys whom most of which just dress how they want to & look however they like and no one really cares.

I'm over the stage of caring about what other people think. I dress how I want to dress and whatever feels comfy. Although, I don't really like to look like a dag outside or around other people so I try not to because then "people will talk" .
I'm no model so I'm not about to try and squeeze myseelf into something that is 4 sizes to small just because that's the "in thing", stuff that!
Although, I'm so self consious sometimes......

Oh my god.. there's nothing worse than someone trying to squeeze into something that doesn't fit. Why would you do that? So people can comment on how that dress used to fit 10 pizzas ago? Yikes.. I think that anyone can look good as long as they wear things that suit them, that fit, you know?

Personally I think I have pretty good body image. In fact I kinda like my body, it's alright for a lazy arse. It's my personality that sucks and there's no personality diets or regimes, let me tell ya!

Why do you think your personality sucks? I like my personality. I think people should like their personalities. It's the only one you've got, and try as you might it won't change. So you're stuck with it!
