While he loves football, his obligations to family and community are more important. I, along with many others, hope that he will return to Melbourne at some stage and ultimately be drafted by Collingwood, but more importantly we want him to be happy with whatever decision he makes.

bugger. sometimes there is more to life than footy.

Hope he comes back and has a crack at the big show, but honestly, only if it is also what the kid wants for himself.

A pity, I hope things work out well for him. Perhaps he will return if the club keeps the contact strong.

Thats sad for the kid. I hope his mate doesn't suffer with his illness and I hope we see Liam back here soon. I did see him in only 3 or so games, and he certainly looked the goods. Especially for someone who wasn't used to this busy hectic lifestyle.

Hope to see you back soon Liam.

Cheers

Liam's race are the type that tend to get home sick. If they arent comfortable in the evironment they are situated in, they tend to want to go home to their families and be around them full time. In Liam's case, he has a mate who has a terminal illness and wants to be with him to comfort him. This is what any of us would want to do but Liam being from the place he is, has dropped all footy commitments here in Melbourne to return home to comfort his mate!!! Good on him and we hope that he will return to play for the VFL Magpies and have a shot at playing in the AFL!

I remember the first time I said hi to this bloke. It was at the practice match in Geelong this year in the rooms after the game. I had a bit of a chuckle when he just looked back at me and with a mean looking look on his face, he nodded his head at me and walked away with sisters and cousins that were at the game watching him. Reason it made me chuckle because it took me back to the day when I first met Leon and he did that same thing!!! NOW I CANT SHUT THE BLOKE UP WHEN I SEE HIM LOL!!!!

Could be the first full blood indigenous league footballer,

Interesting point

Just curious, are you sure there hasn't been another?

Granted there's very few full blooded aboriginals left, and they would mostly be in remote communities. None of the Rioli's qualify?

There's one currently playing for Melbourne - Austin Wonaeamirri.

He's from the Tiwi Islands, Rioli territory.

Haven't had a white person father/mother someone in there family line eg Adam goodes is half irish and half aboriginal so he is not full blooded aboriginal.
But more often than not most "half casts"(even some white aboriginals who you wouldn't even know were part aboriginal) say they are aboriginal and not White even if there dad/mother are a white themself, they embrace the aboriginal culture over and above there white/asian/put race in here _ side.

Yeah. How much blood one has, doesn't have anything to do with whether they're Aboriginal or not. It's very much a cultural thing from my understanding. It's actually possible (but rare) for a person with no Aboriginal blood to be legitimately able to identify themselves as Aboriginal, but only with permission from Elders.

Aboriginals themselves use the term "coconut" to describe someone dark on the outside but white on the inside.

In the end, it's an academic argument about "full bloods", just for interest.

BTW, what I've written is my understanding only and not having a dig in any shape or form. If I've got anything wromg in someones opinion, I'd be happy to discuss it.

In the context of what was asked, a full blood aboriginal is someone that does not have any white ancestry whatsoever.

As an example, Michael Long has some chinese ancestry dating back two or three generations (his father's side, I think).

Regardless of ancestory, this young man obviously feels very strongly about his mate which I think is awesome (your mateship is inspiring).

I only saw him play a couple of times and thought 'OMG, who the hell is that kid, for god's sakes Collingwood sign him!'.

All the very best to you Liam, should you decide to return to Melbourne to continue with your footy, god luv ya and if not, I sincerley hope you do well in whatever you choose.

p.s. If it is (as written) a terminal illness, I sincerely hope he/she does not suffer.

That is very interesting indeed about the full-blood Aboriginal thing... though I guess when you think about it, how many 'full-blood' anglo-saxon people do you know? Must be a rare thing with most races.

By the way, best of luck to Liam and let's hope that everything works out for him.
