I didn't say there was no support, just surprisingly little. Monarchists tend to be very loyal to the concept, but the republican movement has too many apathetic people who, while they don't support the Monarchy, don't have strong enough feelings to push for change. On top of that, like you said you have a schism within the movement on what kind of republic model to choose.
So without a real push and only a fringe of rabid anti monarchists (Which is called treason might I add ) I can't see change coming any time soon. |

Spot on, Wokko. Most rational republicans recognise that the change is unimportant in the overall scheme of things. Of course, it's something that should be done, but there is no particular hurry and only a fairly small benefit to be gained. There are about 5309 more urgent and more important things to attend to first. Rational monarchists, on the other hand, are a fairly rare breed. They certainly do exist, and make some persuasive arguments, but are outnumbered by the loud-voiced weirdo 19-Century types. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Guilty as charged, your honour.
Honestly, I'm a bit like Tannin. I don't care 99% of the time, and then I read an article about Tony Abbott accidentally breaching some bullshit royal etiquette and wonder "why the hell are we still associated with these people?". _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Massive puke.
Firstly, it's a bullshit message. Have the makers of this ad ever been to a childcare centre? Children hit each other all the time. Boys hit girls, girls hit boys, boys hit boys and girls hit girls. At some stage, hopefully by the time they reach primary school, they learn that it's wrong to hit. Not that it's wrong to hit girls, but that it's wrong to hit anyone. Only in a deeply patriarchal society (like Italy, apparently) would "hitting girls/women" be specifically taboo. So, the message this ad sends is pretty screwed up.
Secondly, did I already say "massive puke"? _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

This kids are a bit older than child care level!
But I concur, much better to just try and hunt down the ugly stuff in life, who wants to see the good stuff?
I like these boys. I like all their answers.
And I like the clip.
As you can tell by its appearance on my Facebook page! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Each to their own—it's obviously a popular clip, so it must have struck a chord with many people—but I don't see this as "good stuff". I think it's saccharine, manipulative, and pushing some pretty questionable messages.
I don't agree with everything written here, but this woman makes some pretty good points:
http://rebeccahains.com/2015/01/06/slap-her-fanpage-it-video-objectifies-girls-exploits-boys-and-trivializes-domestic-violence/
Quote: | Thanks to this line of questioning, each boy is brought to life for the viewer. With a range of personal demeanors and interests, it’s easy for viewers to see each boy as a unique and lovely individual.
Then, each boy is visibly surprised when a tall, blonde, conventionally beautiful young girl joins them in front of the camera. She introduced by the off-camera voice with a single sentence: “And this is Martina.”
The interviewer does not ask Martina any questions.
He does not share any details about Martina.
We do not learn how old she is, what she wants to be when she grows up, or why.
Instead, the interviewer asks the boys a question about Martina: “What do you like about her?”
Knowing nothing about her personality or interests, the boys focus on what’s visible—her appearance:
■ “I like her eyes.”
■ “Her shoes, her hands.”
■ “Her eyes, her hair.”
■ “Just her hair, I swear.”
■ “Everything.”
■ “You’re a pretty girl.”
■ “I’d like to be your boyfriend.”
The interviewer doesn’t follow up on the boys’ top-of-mind impressions by sharing information about Martina or inviting her to speak. There’s no discussion of shared interests or mutual passions that might form the basis for a relationship of any kind. It’s all about whether the boys like the way she looks—nothing more.
This makes me uncomfortable. While the producers present the boys as interesting people, they present Martina not as a person in her own rights, but as a girl who is expected to be an object of boys’ desire. She is there to be seen, not heard. |
Quote: | In short, as a result of these issues, I feel badly for all of the children featured in this video. In fact, as a researcher who works with children, I worry that this could be a harmful experience: a grown man, telling them to slap a girl that they so clearly like? And a girl being coached to stand there and let boys who are complete strangers to her touch her body? How awful!
(I wonder whether the boys or their parents were really able to give their informed consent regarding to the boys’ participation in this video. Also, were the boys and Martina debriefed afterwards?)
Unless the boys are sociopaths, of course they’re going to balk at the instruction to slap Martina. Their predictable refusal, set against an emotionally manipulative soundtrack, doesn’t prove anything about domestic violence. In fact, it trivializes the matter.
As far as I can tell, the entire Fanpage.it video is a gimmick. After all, it’s calculated to solicit engagement and “likes” for a page called Fanpage.it—not for a foundation seeking to reduce violence against women. This isn’t about making a difference in the world; it’s clickbait, plain and simple.
Preposterously, the video doesn’t even end with resources for victims of domestic violence, nor are any offered on the Fanpage.it link to the video on facebook. Instead, Fanpage.it’s description of the video offers a link in which they share information about their organization, which confirms my belief that it’s just a gimmick: “Their Goal: Acquire and engage,” says the Fanpage.it description. “’Our strategy is fan acquisition and Page post engagement,’ explains Barbato. ‘We had a vision and Facebook was a big opportunity.’”
A big opportunity, indeed. What a shame that they exploited children to create a video on a subject they have so little knowledge on, just to acquire fans and boost people’s engagement with their page posts. |

I actually agreed with a lot of the stuff David just posted about how it actually objectified the girl.
She was introduced, then just stood there while the boys were asked what they liked about her and invited to 'caress" her. She was literally treated as an object.
I wonder how different the video may have been if the girl was a short fat dumpy thing with freckles and glasses rather than a tall thin attractive girl. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

That's a fair point, the dumpy bit, the rest doesn't matter, it was about the boys reaction. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |
