I've got it Joff!
He's Stan Magro!!!
Do I win a prize?

BTW. I highly recommend ALL Collingwood people get themselves a copy of the Official Illustrate Collingwood Encyclopedia. It is a fantastic read.

Turn to page 116/117 and you will find a fully iilustrated run down of events for this day writen by Glenn McFarlane and Michael Roberts.

http://collingwoodfc.com.au/Portals/60/collingwood_shop.htm

$39.95 (less for members!)

While your there, grab a copy of Collingwood At Victoria Park by Michael and Glenn again. A comprehesive look at the ground that made a club famous and The Club that made the ground infamous.

http://collingwoodfc.com.au/Portals/60/collingwood_shop.htm

A BARGAIN at @29.95

HALF PRICE!!! And even less for members!!!!!

Glenn McFarlane is an interesting chap and loves his Pies like few others can. And so he should, he has an extraordinarily unfair advantage, he is Charlie Dibbs' Grandson. Charlie is a 5 time premiership winning player and played 216 games for Collingwood from 1924 to 1935. In instrumental part of the Machine Team, the starting point for Jock's 'corridor' football and the guy that taught Jack Regan how to play the position of Full Back for which Jack became known as 'The Prince of'. Jack was the 'The Prince' because Jock had always considered Charlie to be 'The King'.

Check it guys this is a club well worth reading about.

Maybe not, but they seemed to do something for you. BTW, I wish you wouldn't mention going down on this forum as there are certain things which should remain private, surely.

I was there, yeah! remember the day fondly!

I was out on the ground holding our Run-thru, waiting for our boys to come-out, when a dons cheer squad member ran through it.

Some of us chased him and I got to him just as he was being pulled over the fence by his rotten cheer squad mates behind the Outer goals.

As they dragged him over, his back was exposed......... he 'yowched'

I sometimes wonder whether the train track marks left from my 10 fingernails are still there ~ tattooed for life, for his stupidity! Hope so! haha

It was a HUGE day, one straight into footyfolklore.

Tuddy, our Club hero, now back as the CptnCoach in enemy colours.

A Sell-out crowd & more, doing anything & everything to get in.

Every surface on this side of the fence covered with squished-in frothing fans, on top of the Stands, Scoreboard & TimeClock, every roofline, in the trees, absolutely everywhere!

There were a couple of guys squashed in Standing-room on the Wing, who'd never been to Vicky Park before, laughing in disbelief as this little cheer squad girl gave crazy chase.

Years later, one of them married me. haha

I was there too, pretty frightening for a 14year old cheer squad member. Wasn't on the ground, (too young or not enough muscles?) Was a great Victory, and Magpies Greg, that was a great read as usual!

On the eve of the return Match 11 weeks later at Essendon, the whole Windy Hill ground was in Lockdown due to a fire threat, just can't trust those Essendon supporters!

Thanks to those who have said they enjoyed the article.

I love writign about the period when I grew up watching footy int eh alte 60s and 70s and I am happy to pass on these memories to the younger ones as well as reminisce with those of my vintage or a little younger.

It feels good for us all to be and feel a part of the Collingwood family.

Magpie Greg you are an absolute legend! The AFL should have commissioned you to write that piece on their history of football, instead of that historian woman (Hibbens?) who knows nothing about the game and its spirit. Your love shines through. Very Happy

Thanks Magpie Greg, Fence-banger and fan4collingwood. It's great to hear from some other 'old school' Pies supporters. I don't know why I started this thread, but i think it was inspired by the stuff about Vic Park. It was 1972 indeed (thanks MagpieGreg) and i was 15 yrs standing in the outer with my grandfather, who was born in Collingwood in 1906. I remember him getting pretty worked up when that bomber hooligan ran through our banner. When the bomber floggers were set on fire, I remember him saying "they got their right whack". While even back then football violence was a rarity (a good thing btw), it must be said that the tribalism of football, played at suburban grounds, was much stronger than the sanitised corporate game of today. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game, and I obviously still love Colingwood, but a lot of the passion has been dissipated by the franchising of the game. Thanks again to those who contributed to this thread and brought back a lot of great memories for an old fart like me.
