... for the first compo claim to be prepared.

Quote: | UP to 40 indigenous Australians are preparing compensation claims against the Victorian Government following this week's official apology to the Stolen Generations. |
Will there be enough money to cover all the other claims that will come in? _________________ Whale

I actually believe they have the right to sue for compensation. After, all indigenous people are no different to anyone in society in that we would all sue to receive compensation for physical and emotional issues, be it a car accident or getting abused by an employer for example.
My concern is will the money actually make life better or worse for the majority of indigenous people if they each receive it as compensation as a lump sum? |

Tough to make any judgement on this one.
On the one hand I believe they have every right to sue for compensation, just as others have for being wrongly done by.
On the other hand I don't believe any amount of money could compensate for emotional torment.
And Dave, that's a pretty narrowminded and disgraceful comment mate. After all, it's the white man's poison which has destroyed a lot of their lives. They never asked for it. _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |

Would you not want money if it were found that you were stolen from your folks and never be allowed to see them again? _________________ Barge |

Reading the linked article.
Quote: | Fellow Victorian Bruce Trevorrow won $775,000 when a South Australian court ruled his removal from his family caused long-term depression. |
So it really is not "the first compo claim" is it? |

Again, reading from the quoted link.
Quote: | Aboriginal Affairs minister Richard Wynne said the Victorian Parliament had already apologised to the stolen generations.
"No compensation has flowed from this," spokesman Ben Ruse said. |
There have been plenty of cases up before courts all over Australia on this issue well before the Sorry Day speech.
In all cases the courts have to decide if there is a case to answer. I expect any fair thinking judge would agree that there is.
These cases may now come to a head due to the Sorry Day apology. That is not a bad thing. |

Idiot
The claim was first prepared over a year ago.
Do you honestly think a claim for compensation can be fully prepared, a senior council briefed and filed in Court all within 2 days? _________________ The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman. |

Are you worried that the compensation claims are going to eat up all the welfare revenue and there won't be enough left over for you, you pair of useless bigoted pissants. |

I don't have a problem with the compo claims.
I'm more surprised that it wasn't first reported on Thursday.
BTW, my Grandfather's Great Grandmother was part aboriginal. _________________ Whale
