You know, I was proud of Ben Cousins today with his honest talk of his addiction and his demons.

BEN Cousins says he is not ashamed of his drugs battle and wants to start training with a VFL or WAFL side at some stage this year.

The disgraced former West Coast Eagle, who is still in rehab, today broke his silence on his drug demons, telling how he felt he had no choice and describing his addiction as an illness.

"I am not ashamed or embarrassed to say I have had a drugs problem because for a lot of people they don't choose to do it, in a lot of ways it chooses them,'' he said.

"At the end of the day, I ran the gauntlet. But at the same time I think there's a lack of public awareness for a majority of people who find themselves in mysituation, where I deep down don't think I really had a choice in terms of the very things that make me a great footballer are some of the things that lead me to fall into those sorts of traps. "

It was a really gutsy effort.
It made me change my mind about him just a little

cousins is not stupid. many drug addicts are actually very intelligent, well paid individuals with high pressured jobs.

i very much understand where he is coming from.

Forget about AFL Ben. Sad really. Great player fallen victim to the modern social problem.

He should be grateful that he has had money and support to pull it up.

Sadly others just end up dead or end up in an institution.

'A Scanner Darkly' is a great Book on the Social problems that come from drugs. Has recently been made into a a Storybook Movie. It is worth a look it you have not read the book or seen the movie.
