had to laugh at john brumby's comments re adelaide being a backwater. i have been there once on a work trip.

stayed at the ramada in glenelg, dropped in to the casino, drank at a belgian bar in the city and went for a meal at the penfolds estate. avoided everything else.

Not at all. They have far more enlightened policies on a number of issues.

RE Indigenous Australians, they require the teaching of Indigenous culture in all schools, and are trying to revive and strengthen a number of Indigenous languages on the brink of extinction (eg. Kaurna Plains School)

RE School curricula more generally, they're a good 5 years ahead of Victoria or any other state in terms of breadth, content, and teacher support.

RE Pokies machines, they have actually been winding back the number of machines in the state, not relying on them for revenue.

I'm sure there's other examples, but I don't really care enough to research it. All I know is that on almost every issue governments attend to, they are innovators, and are ahead of the the rest of the country.

Adelaide is the home of the best breakfast cook in Australia MR H who never behaves known to all as John and everyones charming friend and magpie tragic Kaylene Wink

Who always open their doors when the magpie army is on the road to the city of churches.
Is Adelaide the Backwater as commented by the bloke who wasn't elected by the people ?
One of the nicest places in oz land, look forward travelling the Vic S.A border every season.

Never been there myself, but...

my evil Ezydvd boss came from there.
my girlfriend's nasty stepfather came from there.
Adelaide and Port Powerless come from there.
and, last but not least, SA is the only state where my relationship would be illegal Embarassed and yes, it is concerning that it's illegal anywhere Sad

A deeper algorithm is needed to respond to that correctly.

i love Adelaide!

I think it's a backwater but i think that's the charm of the place, it's not a fast paced place like Melbourne or Sydney

i was born up in them thar hills, Mt Barker to be exact.

I chose to move to Adelaide 19 years ago to give my children a better life.

My 2 girls are team managers within the banking industry, my son is in his last year of Uni, they are all very well respected members of their communities, and workforce, let alone being fantastic kids to their Mum.

I live 35 minutes south of Adelaide, and travel to town each day to work. (takes an hour on the bus, only drawback!)

I live a 5 minute walk from the beach, that I drive to so I can take my car on the beach, with all the chairs, esky, picnic or Barbie, and shade for Mr J who never behaves.

5 minute drive east is the McLaren Vale wine region...... that incudes Chapel Hill (best unwooded Chardonay in the world!) and Wirra Wirra, (Church block...YUM!)

Best of all worlds, clean air, an hour by plane to go to the footy, If this is a backwater, so be it, but Mr Brumby, perhaps you might like to spend a week at my place, and enjoy the charm of Adelaide. I wouldn't live anywhere else!

And thanks Joffa for those nice words mate!

I'm curious David, why would it be illegal?
