and aren't you lucky that you DO live here and not in some third world country, perhaps you could take a minute to reflect on how lucky YOU are to be here.
just a question.......were you born here? did you migrate? if no to the first question, are you an Australian Citizen? _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

Can I just respond to one thing (because you didn't actually address ANY of my points there!). I'm not saying that those who work sh!tty jobs are scum. I'm saying that the sh!tty jobs are underpaid, undersupported, and generally involve sh!t conditions. I don't think many would disagree.
I think you've mistaken which side I'm on Tess, I support the "plebs" as you put them (aka the working class) totally.
What do you think socialist alternative is fighting for?! Working-class control over their jobs, economy, lives! How is that anti-pleb?!
And you're absolutely right that Japan took a few years to apologise, but we've had 200... When will we be ready? _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

I wonder what the posts would be like in this thread if we were invaded by black South Africans tomorrow?
I'm guessing that there would be no hypocrisy and everyone would just say, "well now we are one but many" and "aren't we lucky to live here" and "C'mon get over it already"
Yes, that would be the response, I'm sure of it _________________ The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman. |

Definition of invasion (American Heritage Dictionary):
1) The act of invading, especially the entrance of an armed force into a territory to conquer.
2) A large-scale onset of something injurious or harmful, such as a disease.
3) An intrusion or encroachment.
For those of you having trouble with the term 'invasion', which part are you having trouble understanding?
Are you really that arrogant and stupid that you expect indigenous Australians to celebrate the anniversary of their ancestors dispossession? |

What a relevant question there Francis.
If Australia was invaded tomorrow by ANY goup, I would expect all Australians - irrespective of racial origin - to fight against it.
The difference is Now vs 200 years ago.
The past can be an anchor that prevents people from moving forward. You don't have to forget it or agree with it, but learn to be able to acknowledge it's presence while seeking to move ahead. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

your last para is pretty profound Stui and has actually got me thinking differently about this topic.
So, let's do a hypothetical and not use 'invasion of a country'.....say a person was invaded personally many years ago. Do we just accept the word sorry? Or do we seek justice even if it is many many years later? _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

You can't tell an individual what to think.
But if the desire for revenge remains strong years after the event, that's not healthy. It's exactly the same situation, but I'm not pretending for a second that it's easy.
For the individuals own sanity and health, they need to find a way to move on. Whether they accept the apology, or accept the fact that the other party has apologised, it's not about them. It's about the person who was "invaded". While they hold onto that desire for revenge, they are actually letting themselves re live it day after day.
Like I said earlier, you don't have to like it or forget it, but in oder to move forward, you have to be able to let go of the anchor of the past. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

But am I right about Australia not lining up for compensation.....
Unlike the greedy people waiting for our Governement to say sorry!
By the way you glossed over a few of my points, and I am sorry if I don't responde as I should but I don't spend my time learning how to debate... I'm one of the plebs, forgive me for not having a University Education or would you prefer I butt out of this topic because I tells it hows it is. |
You are not right at all Tess. Australian POW's have [rightfully in my opion] been pushing for compensation from the Japanese government for years, and were actually granted a one-off compensation payment from the Australian government in 2001. |

No, we would hopefully fight back, as the Aborigines did to the best of their ability.
I would hope, however, that in 200 years' time (in the case that the resistance had failed) we had become successfully integrated within the new society, not remained a partially isolated racial/cultural minority.
I strongly agree with Stui's posts in this thread, by the way. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

What the hell? Where did this sudden antagonism come from PP? We're not enemies! Your question was totally f@#king racist and irrelevant, and that's why I refused to answer it.
I was under the opinion you were a proud union member, standing up for the rights of the oppressed members of society, but it seems that you only extend your support to those that don't challenge your world view.
And for the record; I said "ouch" because I was disappointed with your jingoistic response. I really didn't expect that from you. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |
