Quote: | Background: Small-Medium forward who also showed form through the midfield and half back this season. While a big mop of blond hair makes Thomas stand out, his creative running play, including classy blind turns, leaps for hangers and general skill level in front of goal really makes those watching him play take notice. He had an outstanding carnival and a very impressive TAC Cup Grand Final where he won the TAC medal for best on ground. Most who watched that game would remember him – and in particular his four goals including one terrific snap goal during the second half. Was in the Gippsland goalkickers in 14 of his 18 games there this season.
Strengths:
- Vertical Leap: was often a high flyer in TAC Cup matches
- Real run and carry type of player, takes a few bounces
- Outstanding creativity and goalsense
- His “big game form” was terrific (U18 champs and TAC GF)
- Clean hands
Weaknesses:
- Kicking can be a little untidy at times
- Below average in endurance tests at draft camp (both 3km and beep)
- May not be AFL ready straight up, wiry frame still. Could be more an outside type for starters who would play as a small forward.
Footydraft.com:
Thomas should be nudging the top 10 in this year’s draft. He played some terrific footy this year for Gippsland, while he may be held back from AFL straight up, he has some outstanding qualities that should see him have a long AFL career. |

Scared the crap out of me too. They had Miller at no. 71 in the phantom draft and I thought surely how could they select such a player with a priority. |

We should have gone for Ellis and got Thomas at 5.
We haven't picked up any midfielders again
God we can stuff up the Draft good and proper. |

we coulda got ellis and Thomas instead we go for players with no pedegree hoping for miracles. You should always draft the best player. Not at Collingwood. |

Thomas would have still been there at 5
Hawthorn have taken us to the cleaners in the draft.
Why do we go for players that are from left field. Never works. |

I can see Thomas playing midfield, u cant go on where a player played in the TAC. Look at Presti, he was a gun full forward as a junior. |
