Hospital says I'm too fat to give birth

A PREGNANT Melbourne woman is outraged after being told she is too fat to give birth in a suburban hospital.
Berwick mother Lisa Graves, 26, is four months pregnant with her second child. But because her 167cm frame weighs 100kg, Casey Hospital has turned her away.
Southern Health said Ms Graves's body mass index created a high-risk pregnancy that Casey's birthing unit was unable to cope with.
It has instead directed her to Dandenong hospital, which is designed to cater for more complex births.
Ms Graves weighed 110kg when she gave birth to her first daughter, Kyla, at the Royal Women's Hospital four years ago.
She said Casey was discriminating against her.

it's not like she was banned from all hospitals. there is a message in this for her and i think roddy may have hit the nail on the head.

there was another photo in the paper version of this story and she certainly doesn't actually look too bad.

no, the exercise. if her BMI was high then surely the doctors at some stage would have advised her to lower it.

no, the exercise. if her BMI was high then surely the doctors at some stage would have advised her to lower it. |
Well, we don't know that do we. In fact, the only person to bring up my BMI was the anaesthetist before i had my surgery in December. My specialist has never mentioned BMI to me.
I'm in a bad mood now, think i'll go slap Corey

sorry guys i re-read my post and was uneccessary remark.
Jock saw the point i was trying to make, however one must also realise very overweight may be caused from other factors besides diet and exercise. ie medical conditions. sorry again |

my gp regularly reminded me of mine and the need to exercise, eat healthily and continue to lose weight so the bmi would come down.

I'll try to be delicate here.
You are just a little older than her, about the same height and if you weigh 100kg I'll go he for tiggy.
Putting it another way, my current BMI is just in the overweight (by about 4kg). She's half my age, nearly a foot shorter and 4kg heavier.
Instead of having a sook to the papers about what is a legitimate decision by a hospital, she should be having a good hard look at what she shoves in her mouth and how much exercise she's getting.
