TV star attempts suicide after sacking
One of the longest-serving stars on hit TV drama The Bill, Jeff Stewart, has tried to kill himself after being sacked from the show.
Stewart, who played the popular character PC Reg Hollis, slashed his wrists on Monday after being told his contract would not be renewed, The Sun newspaper reported.
The 52-year-old actor was the only original 1984 cast member left on the show, which is one of ABC TV's most popular programs.
Stewart cut his wrists in his dressing room at the south London studios where the show is filmed but then telephoned for help.
Security staff found him and called an ambulance.

i liked his character. 23 years is a long time doing the one thing. now that it is being taken away from him, what's the alternative?

I'm sure there's a "You're Nicked" joke in there somewhere, whereby one uses the term "nicked" in both its slang term for being arrested and it being a synonym for being cut...
But I'll refrain, because it is rather sad news.

Anyone know how bad the pre-christmas "tantrum" was?
Must have been a ripper to get him sacked from the job.

Not necessarily.... while it's possibly a less likely scenario, it's quite possible he could have changed his mind after the act.
Either way, I doubt that being fired was the only factor here.

Typically someone who wants to use suicide as a method for gaining attention will exclaim the fact they intent to commit the act to whomever they wish to gain the much sort after attention from.
Attempting suicide and then calling for help is a bloody dicey way of gaining attention because if medical treatment isn't forthcoming you'll be going the way of the dinosaurs.
