Of course they have.
This corporation expects others to live and die by it's own holier than thou sword, yet will not apply the same standards to it's own staff.
Hypocrites. |

Hypocrites. |
Hold on, they're talking about speeding and traffic fines, not alcohol related offences which are definitely on another level. Jeez.
FTA:
Quote: | The worst breach recorded in a TAC car was a staffer caught doing 74km/h in a 60km/h zone |
That's not really a big deal at all, lets be honest.
Maybe next time you should try to resist falling for the obvious populist spin in a rubbish article from a rubbish newspaper. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

So the defenders of the enforcers want to split hairs over the offense?
Hate to tell you, but one of our "3 strikes" was a speeding offense.
Where to now defenders of the enforcers?
Where to now? |

140kmh in a 100kmh zone is a bit more serious than 74km/h in a 60kmh zone member but if you must take the Today Tonight approach do as you will. |

I don't think being more than twice over the legal BA limit, verses being 14 kph over a speed limit, is splitting hairs.
If you think the offence's are similar you have a far different perspective than I do. _________________ The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman. |

I understand your point Tess, but the respective penalties say otherwise. Cam's offence was an automatic loss of licence for being more than 30kmh over the limit. 14kmh over is (from memory) only 1 or possibly 2 demerit points. |

yes, the TAC are hypocrites. It's a government department. Comes with the territory.
Even though it was a $500k sponsorship, it was a sword of damocles as well. I don't think there'll be too many private tears over losing them as a sponsor. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Considering the TAC spent oodles of $$$ on the "wipe off 5" campaign, even showing us how a woman would "only have bruises" if the car was doing 60 instead of 65, why is 74 in a 60 zone not a major crime?
The reason I do not differentiate between that case study and the BAC is that both drivers have broken the law.
Here's a little help;
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/speedandspeedcameras/speedingresearch.html
Quote: | The reason for this difference is that the force of the crash varies with the square of the impact speed. For example, a 70 km/h collision has about twice the force of a 50 km/h collision. |
The apologists seem to think that the TAC employees are immune from accidents.
Here's some facts.

Good stats mate. Helps add a bit of rigour to this debate. One hidden factor though: much more roads are restricted to 60 kph (and now 50 as well) compared to the number of roads that are limited to 100 kph.
If you controlled for that I bet that the 60 zones are less dangerous, as a result of the massively larger number of people spending much more time on those sorts of roads. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks.
