'No animal should endure it'
January 06, 2008
NIGEL Williamson is an angel of mercy for hurt and trapped animals throughout Melbourne.
A self-styled veterinary paramedic, Nigel and his team race to the aid of wildlife or domestic pets in trouble.
Nigel's Animal Rescue receives up to 30 calls a day. And 2008 is already busy for the animal saviours.
During a recent fortnight they were called to the aid of four shooting victims, all wild birds: a magpie in Caulfield was left to die after being shot through the beak with a nail gun; a pelican was discovered in Seaford with a gunshot wound; and a duck and a goose were victims of crossbow shootings in separate incidents.
"It's probably kids but we can't know for sure," he said.
"(The magpie) was one of the most blatant acts of cruelty I've seen in 23 years, including when I worked for the RSPCA.
"You get ratbags out there who think it's fun to pick on poor defenceless animals."
Other rescues include kittens and small birds trapped between walls, possums stuck in chimneys and a horse which fell into a swimming pool, but couldn't climb out.

It's cases like these that make we wish that the punishment equalled the crime. Wish they would shoot a nail, arrow or bullet into the perpetrator the same way they did to the poor defenseless animal. _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

I vote that no one gets shot. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

No many kids have access to Nail guns or firearms.
The Magpie would have been a fluke shot, nail guns aren't designed to fire projectiles through the air. They only fire into timber when you push it against the timber with enough force to make the saftey slide back. You can manually hold the slide back with one hand and fire nails with the other, but it's very inaccurate. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I am not talking about shooting them to death here, I am suggesting they are shot through a similar body part, ie. limb for limb. At least it might make them think about the consequences of their actions.
These poor animals can not even seek treatment afterwards, their only hope is that someone like Nigel's search and rescue finds them by chance. Most times they are left to die violently slow and painful deaths. _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |
