$8.8 billion worth of consumerism in victoria alone, many people getting themselves into further debt. people bidding and paying overs on ebay for electronic items that have sold out in the shops.

this is what turns me off christmas.

totally agree Jock. I hate the commercialisation of what should be a celebration of life, not what toys are the best.

Christmas sucks.

More money to spend buying presents people don't want, getting a whole lot of stuff you don't want, not being able to park at the shopping centre... there's even more car accidents during christmas time, I reckon.

The only people who really seem to enjoy Christmas are the people who make money from it.

The economy now depends on the Christmas spending cycle.
There are many businesses who would not be able to trade at all if not for the splurge at this time of year.
What I find interesting is the way the stores now have December sales. This was unheard of a decade ago. There would be no discounting until after December 25th. Now every paper you pick up is full of discount offers.

I agree Member...

The way I see it, Christmas is like smoking. You can't get rid of it without damaging the economy and losing jobs, but it is still cancerous to society.

I never got any presents when I was a kid... Crying or Very sad Laughing

It's interesting to hear that in the states they are trying a lot of gimmicks to get people to spend their money during Christmas...since sales are down at this time this holiday season.

I stopped getting stuff for Christmas when I was 16 I decided getting some money this year though it's not going to be big due to the move though the twins will get something.

All that matters really.

Christmas is all about kids, i absolutely love it to death, the leaving of the milk and cookie beside the Christmas tree then eating half the cookie and drinking the glass of milk, watching the kids go to bed with excitement, and waking up to find santa did come.
Watching the kids meet santa at David Jones and Myers, watching the carols on telly every year, Christmas songs and Christmas foods,
It's a time of year when people come together, so what if we spend shit loads of money on the people we love dearly..to me christmas is the greatest time of the year!
merry Christmas everyone Wink

What?
I'm phoning social services. That has to be covered under the cruelty to children act.
